Before reading this, I need you to know that the blog is not for builders that make giant structures. If you don't know what this is for, go to my account and see my creations and you will know which type of builder I am giving tips to. With that being said, let's get to it!
Tips for creative builders:
First, you need to think of an idea. When first hearing this, you may think that it is not a big deal...But trust me, it is. If you still don't believe me, try thinking of an idea that NO ONE has ever made, hard right? So now your mind is in set, let me show you the tip: Try to think as simple as you can...Why? Because everyone has been thinking very very hard and if you do too, it will turn out like this: You thought of an idea as you thought hard, and that moment when you search on YouTube, there are at least 100 people had already thought of it... Therefore, think simple, Minecraft is a place where you make beautiful structures, transportations, but also simple things, things that are around your daily. An example for this would be me, a month ago I try this method, to think simple, and I figured out an idea: a toilet plunger and guess what, no one on YouTube has made it. So you understood my first point, ready for the seconf point? I will give example for each points.

Second, after finishing the first point, you need to list diiferent ways to make it. Do not start making the idea until you have at least 2 ways to make it (only apply this tips when your way of making it have the risk to fail). The advantage of this is that you won't be depressed after failing the first way, instead you move on to the second and so on... For example, my turtle creation. You think that I would figure the way to make it at first? No, I listed 3 ways to make it, the first way didn't work out, the second and third did. In case your two or more ways of making the creations all worked out, compare them to each other, which looks better then choose the one that fits your eyes. That's what I did when making the turtle. (If you didn't see my creations, check them out to understand more).

Third, size is essential. According to my Minecraft making things experience: the smaller, the better. Making things big doesn't impress much people, almost everyone can do it, it's just the matter lf time. IF you are making it small, you spent more time in it and more effort, that attracts more people. Ankther example, my angry bird creation, everyone on Youtube making RED from Angry Bird sooooo big and there are like 50 like that. So I made a version of RED but smaller than a block! You think it is impossible? Then check it out.

Finally, when all is planned. You shouldn't think of blocks you will use. Instead, press E and go look all the blocks in Minecraft, choose out the candidates for the materials you need. Then choose the final blocks you will use. Choosing is art, too. You don't choose blocks base in its color, but how it fits with the other blocks. Example? My creation (RED from Angry Bird mentioned above): The body from the bird went through a comparation with redstone block, red stained clay and red wool. The point that I presented: "How it fits with other blocks" now took place in the process. Red stained clay didn't fit the color of the poppy, so failed; the red wool either; then the redstone block fited the most. That is how you do it.
That is all for this blog guys, hope you find this helpful! Fell free to give your opinions, I find these tips help me alot :D

I can't agree more, especially for the third point, since I did my redstone and command-related ideas in a similar thought! :D

Actually I do also design original and compact stuffs related to redstone and commands for Vanilla Minecraft, for example:
Other minecrafters have done some of them before in different ways, but I consider my own designs to be more compact.

BTW, I recommend you another Minecrafter AdultsOnlyMinecraft (his YouTube channel), who designs awesome redstone ideas, too! ^_^

I didn't really agree with the whole post but I like your second point of listing different ways of creating something. very interesting to see other peoples thought process on building.
