A couple of days ago I logged onto Minecraft and went on a server in which I thought would be quite good. It was a Hardcore PVP server so that means griefing is allowed.
So, the first thing I did was build a small "base" and went out hunting for bases to raid and homes to grief. About five minutes later I indeed found one and started raiding his chests and griefing. Now keep in mind here, I had a base, it's not like I came on the server and said, "Hey I'm gonna go grief!" So I took all his stuff and later I noticed that an Admin had teleported to me and wondering what I was doing. Either he forgot that this server was Hardcore PVP or he was just too stupid to realize that, but he killed me, took all my stuff and temporarily banned me for two hours.
Later on I indeed came back just to see if he got his punishment for doing that because I did nothing wrong at all. Well right when I came in he muted me and pretended like nothing at all happened. Two minutes later I quit that server for good.
My point in this blog is to explain what exactly it means to be a Mod/Admin.
creeperCarole had a great blog about this on her profile and I recommend all of you to read it because it will explain more than mine. Basically what I'm trying to get at is that being a Mod/Admin isn't about playing around with the god command, giving yourself items, playing around with WE. If you look at a real life aspect being an Admin "in real life" means that you have to help others so they can enjoy their experience as much as you can. Almost in every server I play in there is always someone that joins and asks, "Can I be OP?"
People think that becoming OP means your "better" than the builders/members or whatever you call them. Really people should want to stay away from the OP position because it should mean work. Making sure the server is working properly, making sure people are enjoying it, and most of all, making sure people are reading and following the rules.
I guess that nor this post or any post will change these people's minds but it could change yours. If you are one to ask to be OP right when you join a server please don't anymore. Honestly, you would rather be a normal builder and not have to worry about server rules, making sure people follow the rules when instead you can just be building and minding your own business.
I hope this adds a thought in your head and I would be interested what you have to say. Thanks for reading this!
