Overview
Hello again! Inspiration taken from my last blog, I decided to make another blog to show you how I make my road. Indeed, I am overwhelmed by how much words of appreciation I got on my wall tutorial, thank you guys SO much! But does not mean that this blog should be done casually. I apologize for not using default in the pictures, because some people thought using a resource pack was unfair. I really forgot to use default D: But again, I wish that you can benefit from this tutorial, and incorporate this technique into your own builds. Without further shizzle, let's rock =)
Step 1
This is the Creative Node resource pack. All gravel roads in a NPC village look like this, and because it is kind of ugly, this is what I am going to demonstrate as the starting road :)
Step 2
First, replace the edge of the gravel path with grass in an almost zip pattern, but not exactly. You should not do a zip pattern, because randomization is important to make non-symmetrical things look amazing, just like the wall. Below is a comparison of a better randomized road than a more poorly done one.
Step 3
Can you see the difference? :p Yep, the left road just kinda looks more natural than the one on the right.
Step 4
Based on the road you have created in Step 2, the general idea in this step is to add more randomization, and prevent the road from being too bland, as was represented in the NPC village. Replace some of the gravels in the middle row of the road with grass to give it a less "solid" feeling, and also some gravels keeping close to the main road. Once you are done, you can already see some nice shapes of the road :p
Step 5 (Optional)
Personally I believe mixing some stones in the gravel road will definitely make it look better, but if what you are trying to do is making a plain gravel road, skip this step as well as step 6.
But if you would like to add stone, then you should still try randomization to your extent.
Step 6 (Optional)
Dents for the road can make it nice, but maybe not so much if it is a gravel road. You probably don't want a random stone staircase or slab surrounded by gravel, do you? However if it is a cobble road I suggest stone stairs and slabs to be added. BUT, I'll just make a small exception here :p
Step 7
Hay block, bone meal, chests. They are perfect for decorating a road! See Step 8 for result.
Step 8
Does this look nicer? :)
Comparison
Comparing the NPC custom road to the one I have done for you guys. Not every road needs to look like this. Control the decoration blocks and grass amount at your own moderation.
Conclusion
Alright folks now you know some tricks to make a road look better! Apply the knowledge to your medieval town/house/hamlet/city/nation whatever. You do not need to give me credit, but again it would be very nice of you if you do. Also, tell me what info can be added below! Peace :)
