Because people are so gullible and will believe pretty much anything they see. That's what happened with Herobrine when some guy photoshoped steve without pupils then uploaded it to the internet

Herobrine was never real. If you look at the source code of every minecraft version that has ever existed, HEROBRINE IS NOT THERE. In the update it said "Removed Herobrine" because too much people believed herobrine was actually in Minecraft.
