Witches are one of the more mysterious and cunning mobs.

They are rarely seen by players, and often are forgotten about, with the evil Illagers often overshadowing the “Evil Villager” of the game.

Witches are, however, not a mob that lacks lore. They have secrets, and history.

They throw potions at the player and will drink helpful potions if damaged. In the base game, they are rather simple. However, as is the case with lots of topics, Minecrafts canon spinoff, Minecraft Dungeons, adds lots of depth to them.

In MCD, witches are seen mostly in the Soggy Swamp. They live in villages (called covens), though these villages are less densely populated–with houses being less packed together.

The houses inside of covens look similar to village houses. Many of the houses are on stilts, for when the swamp floods, and the Witches seem to all work together, trying to make brews, and occasionally help the Illagers by supplying potions to them.

Witches do not seem to be against Villagers. They don’t seem to help harm Villagers in raids, instead they opt to help their Illager friends.

Witches seem to be similar to Villager Clerics. Both of them seem to employ magic, and the Clerics do use brewing stands.

Similarly to the Illagers, my theory is that the Witches were kicked out of Villages after helping Heroes in the Piglin invasion (from MCL).

Villagers are pacifistic, and have been shown in novels like “The Rise of the Arch-Illager” to be willing to riot and threaten those who disagree with them.

After the Witches and Illagers both betrayed their pacifist views and saved the Overworld from the Piglins, they were booted from their homes and villages.

The Illagers chose to seek revenge (VINDICATION), while the Witches chose to continue learning magic–with nothing against the Villagers. The Witches learned that gold has lots of magical properties. They learned that they could stop the zombification process of Villagers using gold and a weakness potion. They set up tiny shelters in igloos, using a bed and furnace as disguise, to make it look like a normal nomadic hut.

It is easy to find that the furnace will melt the ice if used (Only on Java), this is proof that the furnace is only a distraction from the actual purpose of the hut.

The witches soon moved on, to live in swamp huts, eventually losing interest in their necromancy practices. Instead, they moved focus to potions, and now they wander about, looking for potion ingredients and Heroes to kill.

Of course, these are pretty basic theories. Many of the points came from the amazing YouTuber RetroGamingNow, so please, please check out his channel–it’s very good.

I am aware that this theory is shorter, and perhaps less interesting compared to my theories on Heroes and Creepers. Still, I don't want to make a theory that is more interesting than the facts suggest just for views. I want to make theories that are logical, and not clickbait.

Again, don’t take my word for canon, make your own theories!

If the Heroes are a enemy of us, why do in MCL play as them? Or we play as their enemy? And IF piglins weren't Heroes where are they in MCL?

Heroes are the players' race/species. We play as a Hero in every game.
And, there were Piglins in MCL...
