Why a lot of smaller servers fail early on

WHAT HAPPENS
I play on a lot of small servers. When I get on them, it always seems like nobody is online. I think I know why. What I think happens is that all the people just look at the famous Youtubers like SkyDoesMinecraft, or Deadlox, or even JeromeASF, and think "Oh wow! Those guys are so cool! I bet that if I play on the same servers they play on, I'll get to meet them!". While this is true sometimes, it destroys one of the goals of Minecraft: to let people play together. Yes it may seem like I just contradicted myself, but I make a good point. While everyone goes on servers like TheHiveMC or CraftedMovie, there are countless smaller servers, hoping for players that will never join, because they are too busy waiting for SkyDoesMinecraft to show up on TheHiveMC or another famous server. Then, after months of waiting and advertising, those small servers have to shut down, because nobody cared to look for anything other than what the Youtubers were looking for. Even if the smaller servers had amazing and unique minigames like basketball or Payload Race, those servers would still lose because everyone was playing the famous games on the famous servers.

Thank you, and goodbye.

It's a shame there's this whole herd of sheep mentality to a lot of people. It's pretty much the one link binding your blog and my blog together, ambassador.

I completely agree with this blog. Yet my server is quite old and I am still amazed that it's alive I would still consider it a small server since for about 3 years I have had an average of ~25 people during peak hours, If I'm lucky I would get 40, but that is once in a blue moon.

I think another big factor to think about is cost, that plays a big part in keeping a server afloat.

it goes the same way for the mainly overused styles of server, Minigames servers for example there are tons of people on them all the time and if any other server that is offering something new and fresh or just something 100% original is never recognized.

I remember when the only servers out there were Survival or Creative based servers, those were the days, Now we just have a ton of the same Factions,Prison or Minigames servers.
