NB! LONG POST

First of all let me ask you this quick question, why do we have rules here on PMC?

I guess that now there are many answers going through your mind, and if this is the case than good. Because your thoughts are filled with answers you are actually reacting to my question. But why did I tell you that this is good?

Well, let me first guess your main answers: Rules keep the site in order and prevent damage to the site. What does this mean? This mean that you are aware of the basic site rules and that you agree it should be that way.

Now here is another question for you: What do the rules mean to you? Now every opinion will be different but all of us have something in common. We know with these rules we can be safe here, we know with these rules our work can be safe here, we know with these rules we can prevent damage to this site, we know with these rules we can help others and we can help each other becoming better people on the site.

Now let`s roll back to the big question: Why dono t people read these rules?
Is it because they dono t want a good online community? or is it because they are bad persons? My answer would be yes and no.

Who is the majority on this site? Both in Minecraft and PMC the majority are under 15 years old. Your emotion center is really progressing when you are around that age, and when you are young you are not that much aware of consequences of breaking the rules compared with someone older then you. I took the time to ask our fellow members on PMC how much they followed the rules. This diagram wono t show the right answer of course because there is a lack of honesty here, but you get the whole view. The question I asked them was: From a scale to 1 and to 10, how much do you follow the PMC rules? AGE: Are you in group A) 5-10 B)-15 C) 15-20 or D) 20-25+. I asked 30 random people both in the chat and on private message, night & day time. These are the result:
Statistics
Why don’t people follow/read the rules?
(Diagram from PMC 30.06.2013)

You have their age on the bottom of the diagram and % of how much they follow the rules
Leto s take a closer look on the first and second column (5 to 10, 10-15 years old). People in this age seem to not follow the rules as much as the other groups. And we also notice that the first and second groups are the majority of this community.

When you membership on a new site you usually dono t read the rules and just go on because you are almost used with the same rule regulations on every site. But PMC as a o social media and share siteo have different regulations than most sites. They really are strict on their rules and they do a good job keeping members away from danger. This site is also very social then most sites because

1) People are able to talk and share thoughts in this with each other in this friendly environment
2) we all have 1 thing in common: Either worked on or played the same game: Minecraft

When it comes to rule breakers they mostly register on this site to share their work and nothing else. The most important thing for these kinds of people is to get recognized on the internet. They need their work to go viral do that people get to see their work. When you dono t become a part of the community by staying active on the site you wono t care that much about the rules. Because the lack of time being on the site, people might think they wono t have anything to do with the site and therefore they see no point following the rules. This one reason makes people breaking the rule.

Since we are most talking about people younger than 15 years old we know kids/teenagers are often in a brain evolving proses. At this age people often might not understand the situation and get frustrated pretty quickly. This can cause anger and rage and we get more and more rule breakers.

Also because we are on the internet and no one can physicality do you anything, you wono t be scared of breaking a rule than you would do in the real world. More importantly we have to remember that people have feelings. We have people with many opinions and they would do anything to defend their opinions. Emotions and personal life has also something to do when a person outrages on the internet.

On the other hand we have regular rule breakers which learn from their mistakes. Humans make mistakes all the time and there is nothing we can do about it then learn from our mistakes. But there are some people who just dono t understand how to behave on the internet.

Can we prevent this? Actually we can, I wrote a forum post about this which might help some people. Again these are only my opinions so please respect them.

Thank you for reading this blog and I hope you learned anything or even enjoyed your stay here with me. Have a nice day/night.
