What Does Betta Balance Do?

While Minecraft was in beta, it was balanced to be a survival game. The mobs were scary, they hit fast and hard. It was tough and rewarding to survive, and eventually thrive.

As more and more features were added to Minecraft, no care would be taken to balance existing features for the inclusion of new ones. Minecraft eventually became a nearly-pure sandbox experience. There are no risks you didn't choose to create for yourself, as there are too many low-effort ways to negate every risk. You aren't forced to engage with anything. It stopped mattering if you build a shelter or make armor... None if it helps more than sprinting away from mobs does. Since every milestone became optional, it started to feel to me like there wasn't a point in playing the game.

I created Betta Balance to fix that; and bring back a survival-focused balance, inspired by Minecraft beta :]

Features

NOTE: Some features of this datapack cannot be disabled by deleting it! Please use this on a fresh world!

Sprint Balancing:
  • All classic mobs are faster. It is equally as hard to run from them WITH sprinting, as it was to walk away from them in old Minecraft (which didn't have sprinting).
  • All classic mobs can see farther. Mobs will chase you farther and it is harder to get away.

Bed Balancing:
  • Sheep only drop wool when sheared, not killed (so you must find iron before you can set your spawn).
  • Nights can't be skipped.
  • Insomnia (phantom spawning) is disabled.

Mob Balancing:
  • Zombies do the same damage they used to do in old Minecraft, making them an actual threat again (baby zombies still do the old damage amount).
  • Skeletons no longer have special privileges that let them move at full speed while pulling back their bow
  • Endermen do more knockback and are more resistant to it
  • Ghasts are common like they used to be.
  • Zombie pigmen drop cooked porkchop again! (but not a lot, they're still rotting!)
  • Hostile mobs can no longer be trapped in boats or minecarts (I dare you to try it with endermen) ;]

Combat Balancing:
  • No more attack cooldown! Mobs still get brief invulnerability after taking damage, like usual, so clicking faster doesn't always guarantee more damage.

Enchantment Balancing:
  • Powerful enchants (flame, infinity, thorns, channeling) are now exclusive to chests found in end cities, bastion treasure, etc.
  • Flame is now incompatible with infinity/mending.
  • Riptide has been removed.
  • Mending can only be found in the end.
Armor Balancing:
  • Leather drops from animals more often and can be smelted out of rotten flesh, making leather armor a more viable early game armor.
  • Chainmail armor is now cheaper and faster to get than iron armor, giving an actual incentive to use it. It can be crafted out of chains (which now only take 3 iron nuggets to craft).
Shield Balancing:
  • The shield recipe is now made primarily out of iron ingots instead of mainly wood. It is harder to get one early in the game.

Autofarming Disincentives:
  • Zombie pigmen only drop gold nuggets if they were killed by a player.
  • Iron golems drop used chestplates and helmets instead of iron ingots. If not killed by a player, then only roses are dropped.
  • Fishing no longer gives enchanted items.

    Horse Balancing:
    • Saddles can now be crafted instead of only existing in chest loot, making horses more viable.
    • All horse armors can now be crafted.

    Village Balancing:
    • Haybales can no longer be crafted back into wheat, so villages give freeloaders far less free bread.

    Iron Door Balancing:
    • Fixed iron doors so they no longer drop as an item if you break them without a pickaxe

    Elytra Balancing:
    • Elytras have been removed.

    Todo

    Loot Balancing:
    • High value loot has been removed from common structure chests (like shipwrecks).
    • All structure chest loot is more immersive and has a larger variety of items.

Worldgen Balancing (may be separated into a different datapack):
    • Diamonds are rare again.
    • Structures are rare again.
    • Mob spawn light level requirements have been reverted (so that mobs can spawn up to light level 7).

Try out my other pack, Buffed Mobs :]
It will make the mobs harder and nothing else.

Really like the combat difficulty changes. But can you keep all the other non combat changes behind a property enabler?

So to be clear, you like that the mobs can:
    1. Move faster
    2. See farther
    3. Do more damage
    4. Get out of boats and minecarts
    5. Spawn more often (ghasts)
And you would like to disable everything else?

The only way to disable recipes, loot tables, enchantment changes, elytra removal, etc. is to never include them in the pack. There is no way to make it so that you can turn those features on or off...

So, perhaps a good solution would be for me to update Buffed Mobs (the datapack that evolved into Betta Balance) to have Betta Balance's combat balancing and none of its other features. And then you could use that instead of Betta Balance?

Let me know if that works :]

i think yes all of those except #4. I kind of want harder mobs but without changing vanilla mechanics. Hope that makes sense. Keep the vanilla feeling.

Stellar! Is it configurable though? I would like to use some features and not others.

Anything Betta Balance does with commands could be made configurable :]

Let me know what kind of configuration options you might want!

May or may not have accidentally included the WIP new loot tables in the latest update... Oops.
Feel free to try them out I suppose; dungeon loot, mineshaft loot, end city loot, and ancient city loot are modified. Others haven't been touched yet.
