This datapack is an attempt to recreate the world generator of Minecraft Version Beta 1.7.3 without having to miss out on all the new features that have been added since then.
This means every resource like red sand, terracotta, blue ice, dark oak wood, etc. etc. will be obtainable, while still having nice landscapes to look at.
Because of that I saw it fitting to call this datapack "gamma" instead of "beta" world generation.
The landscapes look a little different on the images because I was using my texture pack (Cheyrons Better Default).
I did this just for looks. You can of course use this datapack without my textures without any issues.
Right now this pack is basically finished.
I plan on maybe adding a few more features in the future, and polishing it if needed.
In order to use this datapack you need to:
1. Download the file
2. Extract the folder "Cheyrons Gamma World Generation II" from the .zip file.
3. Start Minecraft and a new world and load in this file into the world's datapack folder
4. Start the news world
! In order to change the seed you need to:
1. Open the folders: [Cheyrons Gamma World Generation II] --> [data] --> [minecraft] --> [dimension]
2. Then open the overworld.json file
3. There are two seeds. I'm not sure why, but I always changed both of them and it worked great.
Big thanks to SkyDeckAGoGo (Neo-Beta) and b3spectacled (Modern Beta).
I was and still am quite unfamiliar how datapacks work, and without looking at their packs I wouldn't have been able to create one of my own, and I definitely recommend checking them out.

Have something to say?
So yes, the terrain just goes down very steep once you enter the water on the Vanilla Minecraft beaches. Therefore, for a smoother transition: cliffs and shelfs :D
The one block deep sand beaches aren't intentional, they are unavoidable, sadly.
So as stated, the goal was to reimplement many parts of the old beta 1.7.3. terrain generation especially the nice looking beaches, which you cannot do directly.
Instead, the only known method is to declare the biome a "nether-type" biome in the configured_surface_builder folder, which will generate soul sand beaches. And then you need a configured_feature that acts as an ore generator, which replaces all soul sand with sand. Sadly, it will never replace everything, set the size to 64 or 1000000, doesn't matter. There will always be soul sand patches.
Another side effect is that the "nether-type" limits the terrain generation to y=128. Otherwise the only block that will be generated is stone, ... which is really a shame. I would have gone berserk with the terrain height if it wasn't for this :D
Now it's only possible in biomes with no beaches, like ultra mountains.
So yeah, with those fancy new datapacks I really wished Mojang gave us all the tools needed for fully customizable worldgen, but they didn't.
I was looking for something to play survival on that improved vanilla world gen but wouldn't take anything significant out.
Thanks :^)
