    Colorful trims adds the ability to use dyes in the smithing table. You can now use any dye along with trims to customize your armor. Works with all trims and armor.

    All 16 dyes can be used
    * You need the resource pack in order for you to see the custom armor trims. Without it you would see the missing texture texture.

    im trying to do something similar, but no matter what i cannot get the items to be the correct color could you give me any insights

    I'm guessing you mean something like the icon for this.Colorful Trims You have to edit the item model for all armor types with the trim_type. You can look at the resource pack for this to see what I mean. You then have to create more models for each item that layer the trim onto the armor item. This is pretty complicated and time consuming but programs like notepad++ and windows power tools helped me out. This is all I am able to help but I suggest looking through the resource pack for what I did.
