Hi everyone! This datapack adds several different playable instruments into your game! So far it's a major work in progress, so keep that in mind if you discover bugs or aren't satisfied with the current instruments in the pack. I plan on expanding this pack as frequently as I can with new content!

How to Get Instruments

All of the instruments in this pack can be crafted at the instrument crafting table. This crafting station allows you to craft any instrument so long as you have the listed materials for it in your inventory. Hovering over an item in the menu will tell you what materials you need to make an instrument. The recipe for an instrument crafting table can be found on the second picture in the photo gallery.

All instruments currently in this pack (click to reveal)

How to Play Instruments

Once an instrument has been crafted, simply hold it in your main hand! This will open up an in-world interface containing all of the notes you can play. Right click on any shown note to play it!

Some instruments will also require additional items to play. Electric string instruments require an amp nearby to play if they are electric instruments (electric guitar, electric bass, and so on). Playing these instruments without being within 10 blocks of an amp will cause them to not produce any sound. (I know this isn't the most realistic but it was a stylistic choice to give amps a use). The recipe for an amp can be found on the second picture in the photo gallery. All bowed string instruments also require a bow which can be made in the instrument crafting table.

Things I Plan On Adding

- Dying/painting/different texture variants for instruments
- Model variants for some instruments (e.g. pineapple ukulele for the ukulele)
- I might also update some textures if I figure out how to make them look more detailed but still nice
- Sheet music/tabs? Maybe something to where instruments can play a given piece in the off hand?
- Instrument stands for displaying instruments
- The sounds for the instruments are subject to change (looking at the acoustic bass)
- Amp functionality is subject to change

- More instruments in general (crazy, I know)
  - Keyboards/pianos
  - Wind
  - Brass
  - Percussion (pitched and unpitched)
  - Possibly some choral stuff? We'll see about it when I get there
  - And a few more surprises ;P
- Support for 1.17, which is fairly easy to do for this pack and I plan on doing that as soon as the 1.17 prereleases start rolling out
CreditModels made in Blockbench; instrument GUI created using Stevertus's GUI tool; thanks to Timber Forge for the tutorial on custom blocks!

Help?

UPDATE NOTE- I figured out that the resource pack has to be hosted. Changed that. The instrument crafting table now appears as it should, but the dupe glitch is still happening and no instruments. I had my admin try it and he got the same result. Help?

***

I loaded the resource pack AND data pack into my server files.

Managed to craft the instruments crafting table in the world- no problem- but it looks like an item frame in the inventory, and when placed down it looks like a barrel. No problem. I get the stuff in my inventory... Nothing. Ok so I place something in the barrel and it just goes into hyper mode, duping the item into my inventory at incredible speed.

I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong but not sure what? Should the resource pack go somewhere else? Do I need to unzip the files? Is this even compatible with a server? The instructions seem to indicate it's server-friendly but I can't get it working.

Thanks!

This datapack is amazing but there's one thing that bothers me. The datapack worked perfectly for the first time but when I rejoined my server after a few hours datapack wasn't working properly. Now when I open the Instrument Crafting Table I don't see any items. And yes... I tried restarting my server and reloading the datapack.

Really well-made data pack except for one bug when trying to craft instruments it would not work when I had all resources in my inventory.

Alright, you've convinced me. I think my server will like it (:

unfortunately it was not working for me. The resource pack didn't load/I don't see a link, and the instruments won't play. I understand that it is a WIP so I will definitely check back later.

There's a link to download the resource pack under the required resource pack button up above just below where you download the datapack itself. I'm going to hope and guess that the instruments wouldn't work because you might not have had the resource pack installed since its where the sounds come from? If you're sure you had the resource pack installed too though, do you maybe have any specifics about what wouldn't work in particular?

I plan on adding all of those instruments once I get to their sections :P and sheet music is also a project for later down the line because I'm sure that one's gonna be a little tricky to implement the way I'm thinking of right now. But the recording block you described is a neat idea! I'll maybe see about creating something like it because I do like that idea :3

And yes you can showcase this :D

Great datapack! I have only one question: will you add drums? I really enjoyed playing bass, but I simply can't play Seven Nation Army without drums

Mhm! I plan on implementing some kind of customizable drum set at some point. I'm not entirely sure if it'll be customizable when I get around to it but I will, for sure, be adding a drum kit and some other various percussion instruments like snare and bass drums!

Another question: Does it even work in multiplayer? We tried it and it didn't work. There were no guitars in instrument crafting table

In all honesty I hadn't tested this pack in multiplayer until a few days ago, so it was a lot less compatible with multiplayer than I thought it would be and ended up being broken in ways I hadn't realized it would be. I'm gonna be working on fixing all of the issues that came up in multiplayer so maybe in the next week or so it should be ready to go for multiplayer use!

There should be some sort of guide on how to play coherent music with these instruments because I cannot make music. Sweet datapack

To try and at least make playing music a bit easier I hope to eventually add sheet music that can be written like those old programs where you'd use letters, numbers, and symbols. Hopefully, that'll make things a little easier because I know the instruments' GUI isn't the most user friendly for everyone

Once 1.17 comes out, could you use the vibration particle to when someone plays an instrument?

I'll see if I can do something like that :3 I was hoping to maybe toy around with togglable particle effects being displayed when a note is played so I'll see if this would work! :)
