    Effect Gems is a simple datapack that adds new items called “Effect Gems” that can be put in the offhand or mainhand slot to receive status effects.
    Orange GemThe gems can be obtained by killing a Gem Zombie. The Gem Zombie can spawn naturally throughout the world, anywhere a normal zombie can spawn. This means Gem Zombies can spawn from zombie spawners!
    There are a total of 12 different gems that the Gem Zombie can drop. Each one will grant a different effect when placed in the offhand slot. There is also the possibility that the Gem Zombie drops a pearl, too!Purple Gem

    They are not heads, they are white dye with a custom model applied. You will need the resource pack.

    I just downloaded the pack and installed it to test, and I get the item from the zombie but it doesn't give me the effect...
    Any ideas?

    If you have more than one gem in a stack at once, the effect will not be granted (This is a bug).

    This issue could also be caused by another datapack.

    Quick question, can this be done with player heads? Heads are customizable as well. And zombie can equip it

    Yes, the original version did not require a resource pack. However I ran into an issue where whenever you would right click it would place down the custom head, and this was incredibly annoying. So I switched to a resource pack. And while I probably could rewrite the pack and try to find a way around the placing down bug, it's quite low on my priority list.
