Abstract

This datapack simply teleports any players falling through the End void onto the Nether roof. Your items might be saved from the annihilation of the void, however, you will need a way of keeping you from the fall damage and obsidian blocks to create portal to the overworld. Otherwise, you should find your way out by dying and respawning. In addition, you can do a lot of stuff such as nether roof based farm, safe fast travel, etc. on the roof.

What it does?

  • Any entities falling through the End void will be sent onto the Nether roof.
  • The coordinates are multiplied by 8. So, you can travel much faster in the End. (overworld:nether:end=1:8:64)
  • Recipes for crafting mushroom blocks using 4 of corresponding mushrooms.

How to escape from the Nether roof?
Using Portal
  • Bring at least 10 obsidian blocks and a lighter to create a portal to the overworld.
  • If you're on multiplayer server, call out for help to another player to bring the materials.
Using Death
  • If on the hard difficulty, run around until you starve to death.
  • Do anything to die. Use your imagination.
  • Gather mushrooms around the roof, craft blocks with them, build a jump platform, and die from the fall damage like on the video.

Why did you make such data pack?

You can do a lot of stuff on the Nether roof. But if you want to get to there, you have to use bugs to phase through bedrock and make a hole using pistons and stuffs. Players use the bedrock roof as an end game content. So, in my opinion, it should be available without using any bugs. Therefore, I designed a way of getting on to the roof without breaking the game balance inspired by shmoobalizer's seamless dimensions data pack. Also, dropping 20 blocks above the roof will definitely kill the player unless they have end-game gears such as feather falling netherite boots or elytra. Of course you can survive using an ender pearl like in the video.

The prototype data pack had no way of getting back to the overworld if you managed to get on the roof but have no means of creating a portal or dying. I tried to implement ritual-like triggers to give the wither effect, suspicious stew, or just kill command. However, I realised that the only things up on the roof of the Nether are mushrooms, and one of the most vanilla thing in this game is crafting. So I added crafting recipes using mushrooms to make blocks for platform. In balance perspective, mushroom blocks cannot be used to farm mushrooms since they give less than needed amount when harvested. So, here it is: Vanilla friendly way of going on the Nether roof without breaking game balance. (I call this series the Balanced Extensions. So, expect to see another one later.)

4 Update Logs

2.1: Slow falling while waiting for chunk loading : by Guris 06/25/2023 7:05:07 amJun 25th, 2023

  • Slow falling effect while waiting for chunk loading
  • Also, players will have a nausea effect
  • No longer teleports other entities but players since it causes coordinate issues (only teleporting a player will result in the right coordinate, but teleporting other entities first will multiply 64 to the coordinate. I don't know why this is happening.)

If you are reading this comment, I want to ask you something. Thank you for visiting this page.
  1. Is 1 to 8 coordinate ratio between the End and the Nether too large? As, you know, it will make End to Overworld ratio 1:64.
  2. Do you have problem teleporting when there are more than two players falling through the void? Especially in the coordinate aspects.
  3. Is your designated chunk in the Nether already loaded when teleported? I want to know if forceload really reliable.

Actually, the Nether being 8x smaller than both the End and Overworld is part of Vanilla - you can find out by teleporting entities between dimensions and checking co-ods. So having that ratio will not make End to Overworld be 1:64, but rather a 1:1 (The way Minecraft has it internally)

Yes, I've checked that out and made the actual ratio 64.0:1. I found out changing pack format from 6 to 5 leaves the literal coordinate without applying it for nether but I wouldn't risk it. Thanks for letting me know btw. So don't worry, the ratio of overworld:nether:end is really 1:8:64 using this data pack.

What happens if you have feather falling but no obsidian and no flint or sources of poison? How will you ever escape the nether?

Hey! I updated the data pack so that you can escape from the Nether roof without any items in your inventory. You can now craft mushroom blocks with mushrooms to build platform to jump and die.

You will starve to death if you're on hard difficulty. Otherwise, unfortunately, you cannot escape. I'm looking for a solution to this rn, but cannot promise it will be updated soon. Maybe it will be associated with mushrooms as they are already on the nether ceiling? Thanks for asking btw.
