Introduction
Higher beings have banished you to a world which you are forced to wander forever. This blocky world is a perfect prison, be it not that they overlooked one thing: your mortality is your greatest weapon.
Welcome to Let Me Out (of this world)!!! This entry for Datapack Jam 11 adds a new mechanic do everyone's favourite Minecraft activity: dying! When you die, you will leave the world in which you've been imprisoned and appear in another realm which is between life and death. If you die here, you will lose your entire inventory. But if you manage to make it to the exit, you'll be greatly rewarded!
The supreme beings are no fools, however. Once you've died due to some cause, the beings will get wind of this escape route, and you will not be able to use this method of death to leave your prison again. You'll have to continuously invent new ways to die, and the generated dungeon will adapt based on how you died! (kinda, I didn't have enough time to make 72 different dungeons 😅)
Death!
In the advancements screen, you can see a log that keeps track of all the ways in which you've died already. There are two categories of death: entity causes (such as getting mauled by a piglin) and environmental causes (such as drowning). These only get 'earned' when you enter a new dungeon, so you don't get these when you die inside the dungeon.
There are four categories of dying:
- When you die outside of the dungeon and you haven't died in that way before, you will be transported into a newly generated dungeon with all of your items.
- When you die outside of the dungeon in a way you've done before, you'll just respawn like normal (but with keepInventory :))
- If you die inside of the dungeon without having reached the exit, you respawn at your spawnpoint and lose all of your items.
- If you die inside of the dungeon without after reaching the exit, you respawn at your spawnpoint with your items.
The Dungeon
After you die, you will respawn in a new dimension called the Edge of Death. The dungeon is based on your cause of death, so if you died of drowning be prepared for some swimming! The goal in this dungeon is to make it to the end without dying and destroy the crystal. If you do this, you will be given a choice between three Otherworldly reward items and be transported home safely.
Otherworldly Items
The following items can be obtained from completing the dungeon:
- Star-Spangled Eyes: A helmet that helps you find nearby buried ores
- Impulse Vector: A wand that propels you in the direction you're looking, using Essence of Dawn as fuel
- Essence of Dawn: ↑
- Infernal Bodkin: Pretty much just a chunk loader
Final Remarks
Don't get killed by the Ender Dragon o_oCompatibility | Minecraft 1.20 |
