Description:
Change your vanilla experience. This datapack changes the respawn mechanic in Minecraft. When you die, instead of respawning back at your comfy bed, your soul is actually released at your point of death. In order to resurrect yourself you must fly back to your bed (don't worry, it tells you how to get back).
More fun with friends: In addition, if this datapack is on a multiplayer server you get the added benefit of being able to spook other players simply by flying near them. They won't be able to see you, but they'll get a cryptic message that a lifeless soul is nearby in the form of a 'randomized' cryptic message.
Other notes:
- For some people this may be annoying, but for others, this gives them the opportunity to grab the coordinates of their death location before respawning at their bed.
- Players are put into spectator mode, but they can only respawn at their bed.
- No bed? No problem, we've got that covered.
- To deter the use of spectator mode as a soul to explore, souls are given pumpkin heads (able to be configured out) and blindness if they clip through blocks.
- Deaths in the Nether or the End dimensions will spawn you next to your bed as a soul.
Custom Configuration:
(Note: You may also choose to use the default configuration)
1. Open the Lingering Souls datapack
2. Navigate to data > lingering_souls > functions > config > configuration
3. Feel free to edit the numbers as indicated in the config file to your liking
How to install:
1. Download the datapack
2. Locate your Minecraft world file
3. Navigate to [world name] > "datapacks"
4. Drag and drop the lingering-souls-datapack.zip to the datapacks folder
5. Extract the pack (it will extract cleanly in its own directory)
Uninstall of Datapack:
/function lingering_souls:scripts/uninstall
