This datapack spawns a zombie version of yourself upon death!

The zombie picks the best items as weapon and armor, then stores all other items in the chest he's holding. He will also take all your experience orbs. Once you find and kill him, he will drop all items and experience.

At the cost of having to fight yourself, your items won't despawn before you get there. To really make sure you won't lose your items, zombies will spawn as drowned underwater or wither skeleton in the nether. All mobs will have fire resistance applied to them. Lost your items or xp anyways? Place a comment and I'll try to push a bugfix.

Can't find your zombie with all your stuff anymore? Try Coords Master! In survival, it would only cost 1 compass item to see your death coordinates.

This datapack was more difficult to create than you would think. A zombie has no data values for inventory (besides hand and armor items) or experience. A full inventory doesn't even fit in a single chest (due to hotbar and shield slot), so I had to create a system where every item on the ground gets it's own slot inside a chest inside another chest inside the offhand slot of the zombie. Once the zombie dies and drops that chest, I had to spawn an item entity for every item in any of the chests inside that one chest. For this to work, I needed 70 lines of commands. Storing and dropping experience needed another 8.

Install Instructions
This is a datapack, it can easily be used in any world or server without any difficulties.
Simply drop the downloaded folder in the "datapacks" folder of your world save (<world>/datapacks).
Then open your world and do
/reload

In case the datapack doesn't automatically get enabled, run:
/datapack enable "file/[datapack folder name]"

Extreme Death Conditions Update! : by Bertiecrafter 10/08/2019 2:31:19 pmOct 8th, 2019

When you die in water, a drowned zombie will spawn.
When you die in the nether, a wither skeleton will spawn.
Any "death monsters" will have fire resistance.

This update is incompatible with the previous. Previously spawned death zombies won't drop the collected XP anymore.

what do you do if the undead player in question has the best armor and sword in the game, without commands.

Haha, simply make sure to always have a second pair of armor at the ready. The advantage of these player zombies is that your items won't despawn. As long as you are the first to find it, you can come back days or weeks later when you got good enough armor and weapons to take on your past self.

I love it. I was thinking about making this in the future (similar) But im glad i don't have to now as it sounds as hard, if not harder, then i expected!

Props to you for making this much needed addition!

The zombie can walk away from the place of death, they are slow though so I wouldn't worry too much. They will burn in sun as long as it's not wearing a helmet for now, after I sort out the issue that 0fflin3 pointed out, I'll push an update that also gives the zombies fire resistance.

I have an underwater base with my friends, and we tried a similar datapack before. So, the first thing I tested was drowned. I died underwater in a place far from spawn. After going back, I waited for the zombie to turn into drowned. After the zombie became a drowned, it lost its green particles. I teleported to another far away place, and reset the server. After that I went back to see if the drowned despawned. It didn't, which is a big plus for this datapack. But when I killed it, I only got the items it was wearing and holding. I didn't get the rest of my inventory.
My knowledge in this area is not very much, but I have an idea. There are "DrownedConversionTime" and "InWaterTime" data values for zombies. Would it be possible to make a quick fix to this by somehow preventing player zombies from turning into drowned?

Very interesting case and I'll definitely work on supporting dieing underwater! Thanks for the feedback =)
-----

I just tested dieing underwater and it worked just fine. All data is copied to the drowned zombie from the original zombie. I sent you a DM to try and work this out.
