to increase the "reward" sense when progressing.
This, while maintaining "vanilla"-feel as much as possible and without (excessive) grind.

to increase the "reward" sense when progressing.
This, while maintaining "vanilla"-feel as much as possible and without (excessive) grind.
"Simple Gated Technological Progression" -- SiGaTe-Pro
Key gates of progression:
Early stone age:
-- wood no longer punchable ("drops" air without an axe or a piece of flint)
-- flint replacement for wood-level tool material,
most of those tools don't require crafting table: to emphasise nomadism (surface exploration)
-- string accessible early via grass(plant)
-- "extra fiery torch" available via campfire(cheaper) + 2 sticks + 1 lvl : alternative early defence/offence

Late stone age:
-- crafting table no longer as cheap and breaks down (leather): to emphasise semi-sedentarism
-- recipe for gambeson armor (wool = leather) to ease access to early armor
-- furnace require a clay brick(item)
-- bread cooked in furnace (1 wheat = 1 bread)

Copper age(*1):
-- copper unlocked with campfire + charcoal over copper ore block: flint(wood) pickaxe cannot mine copper ore
-- copper replacement for stone-level tool material
-- "copper arrows"-recipe provides more arrows than flint (since custom damages is beyond data pack capabilities)
-- copper shield replaces iron shield(*2) : protection against (stone-age onwards) bow & arrows

no bronze age: it feels like adding a custom semi-rare metal "tin" to only make bronze (an alternative to iron?),
does not improve gameplay. It would add only grind , clutter,
a lot of hassle coding-wise and intrusions of game mechanics for a "vanilla-plus" data pack.

"Bronze shield resource pack" or alike recommended
Early iron age:
-- furnace yields reduced amount of iron and gold
-- chains (cheaper) required to make chainmail armor
-- chains (cheaper) required to make chainmail armor
Late iron age:
-- blast-furnace required to access full yields of iron and gold
-- smithing table and chainmail armor (+iron ingots) required for iron armor

Comment on authorship
Data packs with similar content - in part or fully - may also have served as inspiration to start writing my own, which I believe to be more balanced, complete and closer to vanilla. (Constructive criticism is welcome!)
However, I wrote/designed every part of the code and texture* myself (*except copper tools textures, but I don't remember from who :/).
