Remember Mojang's mob vote a few years ago?
One of the options was a Blaze King mob - Mob D - but we chose Phantoms instead.
Now the king of the blazes, the Hovering Inferno, is back with a vengeance, and more powerful than anyone ever imagined.
The Hovering Inferno we fight here is much different from Mojang's - it is an end-game boss with tremendous power. Don't fight this boss without enchanted netherite armor...
The Inferno has 13 different types of attacks, which it randomly combines into "spell cards". Each spell contains one or more of its attacks used repeatedly until it moves onto the next wave. As the fight goes on, the boss creates more difficult spells by using more attacks at the same time.
The last spell card is special - the Inferno becomes invincible and uses all of its energy to launch one last attack on the player. If you get hit by its assault, you'll almost certainly die - your only option is to run. But if you survive the last attack, you'll be rewarded with an Infernal Piece, which can be used in a Smithing Table to upgrade an Elytra with armor. The Infernal Piece will have more uses later...
The Hovering Inferno is summoned by bringing a blaze to the overworld, and sacrificing a nether star by throwing it at the blaze.
This boss battle was largely inspired by Touhou bosses, which is where I got the 'spell card' mechanic, as well as the bullet hell-type attacks which are used a few times.
I originally made the Hovering Inferno for Incendium, which is my full-on Nether expansion datapack. I highly recommend that you try it - it adds 10 18 new Nether biomes and a ton of new structures to explore in the Nether. The Hovering Inferno is already included in Incendium - no need to install them both!
If you are going to make content about this datapack all I ask is that you give me credit and include a link. Thanks!
