Check out TRUE SURVIVAL if you haven't already! It contains features like the Spelunker, reworked mobs, bosses, progression, and more!

You can now come across an alternate kind of Wandering Trader called the Spelunker!



Unlike the normal Wandering Trader, the Spelunker has been balanced to be useful in a practical way. The Spelunker is meant to be rewarding when you come across, but not to the point that disrupts the normal gameplay progression. The trades have been balanced to prevent abusing the more valuable trades, limiting the amount of times you can purchase them. The Spelunker provides many useful trades for when you're down mining in the caves.



I would much appreciate feedback on how you would improve it and what you liked about it! This is the second preliminary module of the overhaul datapack I'm developing called True Survival. Stick around to see what else is in store.

My favorite of the custom villagers. Being able to get fortune, even level 1, and silk touch guaranteed with enough saved up emeralds, seeing that flash of light in a distant cave makes you think "OH BOY, A WANDERING TRADER!" for the first time since you realized you could use two free leads.

Are a huge group of them supposed to spawn? Unless it's a SMP problem since we're playing with this on LAN.

Hmm yeah I think it's a quirk with multiplayer when loading new chunks. Mass amounts of bats spawn at once and create multiple spelunkers.

I believe lots of them also spawn under mushroom islands due to to vast quantities of bats that spawn in the caves there. I imagine this isn't an easily fixable issue considering it's just a side effect of using bats to spawn them. Figured I'd mention it though.

(Seen below, spelunkers spawning under terraformed mushroom island.)

Thanks! Yeah I do have ideas on perhaps dimension exclusive traders. Still figuring out the best way to balance and execute it though.

Very cool! Smart to use the bat's spawning conditions. And actually relevant to players at certain scenarios, whilst being resource-balanced and organic, as if part of the game. I assume it works in multiplayer!
