Am I too old for Minecraft?
Hello everyone.
I am 16 years old and I recently got back into playing minecraft. I hadn't played it for a good year and a half because I simply got bored of it but I am now back and I feel ready to play a bunch again. You see, I first started playing minecraft back in the fall of 2010 when I was only in 4th grade. I've seen this game grow and evolve over the years and I can't tell you how much fun i've had. But only recently, when I started playing again. I felt... Left out, or not in my place. I feel that because i'm 16 and all my other friends have moved on the other games. I feel like I shouldn't be playing. Right now is a time in my life when I have started to think about my early adult plans in a couple of years and I can't help but wonder if I should be playing at this age. Now I know what you guys may be thinking, "Oh! You can play at age 50 for all I care, It doesn't matter! Aslong as your enjoying yourself!". And to an extent this is true, but I can't find people my age to play with anymore. Everytime I play a game and someone asks if they wanna discord. They always turn out to be way below my age and I feel like i'm an oddball in everyplace I go. I never thought back in the day, everyone was my age too. I figured there were a diverse range of ages playing the game. Basically what I'm trying to say is. Am I welcome?? In this community that I have come to love for 43.75% of my entire life!? (Yes I did the math). I really don't want to feel this way. Is there anyone out there my age or older that feels the same way? I have a pretty good YouTube channel going that I have had for 2 years now and I've uploaded 100+ videos and my subscribers enjoy what I do post but I don't DARE upload a minecraft video because to them it's "Childish". So again, if there is anyone else out there that feels the same way I would love to know. THANKS!

Too old to play Minecraft? Not a possible thing. I know someone over 50 who plays.

Just want to say I'm 18 now, a graduate. I love playing minecraft and I feel I've found my place. I can't believe this thread is still going after 2 years. Thank you all for your replies, it means a lot.

Two year old thread, so you ought to be ~18 which appears [based on your recent replies] to have pulled you out of the 'uncanny valley' of late teens who dispage anything enjoyed by either their younger siblings OR their parents (all gods forfend)…
WRT the youtube channel:
Unless it is (or intended to be) monetized and a meaningful source of income (in whcih case what to post becomes a business decission), post things you care about.
As for being too old to play with computers (games or programming) a goodly portion of my family has (half?-jokingly) suggested my interest may confer lichdom...

also CD242, I fisrt played MC when I was 3. I did die, and screamed because there was a huge spider and I HATE spiders.

LISTEN there are hundreds of people out there who play minecraft and they are MARRIED. One of my favorite youtube channels is LaurenzSide. If you want to watch it please beware of the headphones because when something scary happens like getting exploded by a creeper she screams REALY LOUD. Your NEVER to old for Minecraft. I'm going to be playing when im 100! (if I live that long)... Like what chickenpants93 said do a test video to see if they like it, ill be watching!
2
honestly? I would say if you enjoy it, dont stop. I never really had this problem though, i honestly dont care if people make fun of what i enjoy playing as much as other people. if you realy want to do a minecraft video for your channel then go for it. Ive found that youtubers who make videos about what they enjoy are more popular because they are real. maybe you can make a test video to see if your fans enjoy it. Best of luck.

There is no age limit to having fun. It is a basic desire of every living person. I started playing Minecraft about a year ago as a way of having fun with my kids. They have since moved on to other games, but I still play MC and work on new designs. They occasionally still logon to MC, but my son (about your age) plays more Fortnite than anything. That's ok.
You are at an age where everyone around you is discovering how big and varied the world is and their interests begin to diverge in many wonderful ways. Your true friends will always be your friends even if you like different things.
As far as your love of Minecraft goes, there is no age limit. That's one of the great things about the game. Players will come and go; the community will change and evolve with the game, but the community seems to always welcome anyone who plays. Especially here at PlanetMinecraft! Just follow your heart on the matter and don't be too concerned whether your old friends tag along or not. You will always meet new people to play with and share ideas. I hope we'll see lot's more of you here!

Minecraft's community ranges from kids who are 7 years old all the way to mature adults, just go on youtube to see that. Minecraft is a game of infinite possibility, so of course theres a large section that is childish but theres also parts that are more mature. You're never too old to create and explore.

I've only just recently turned 14 but I think I'm at least 19 on the inside. But I still play minecraft.
1
never
3
The mature community I play with has people well over their 50ies playing..
2
Never!
3
there are people twice your age who play minecraft.
3
Well i guess you are 18 now
1
Indeed I am. And yes I play, I found my place :)
3
Wew this thread is still going on for 2 years.
1
I quite surprised myself. I'm 18 now, just graduated High School. And I still play .
1
I'm 16 too and I enjoy it. Of course I make plans for future and shouldn't just focus on my projects in MC but it's a nice hobby
2
there is a Youtuber called ThinkNoodles, he is 41 years old and is still playing the game, I myself am 24 and still enjoy the game as much as when I first picked it up in 2013

You're never too old for minecraft mate, im 16 nearly 17 myself.
2
I'm turning 25 tomorrow and was already in my 20s by the time I started playing Minecraft. Kids probably don't care if you're 16 or 60 as long as you're having a good time. And if they do have a problem with that, fuck 'em (not literally; that's illegal), go find someone else to play with. Don't forget that plenty of prevalent minecraft youtubers (I'm mostly thinking of Hermitcraft) are also in their 20s or so, so at 16 years old you've got no reason in the world to think you're too old.
2
no

Your never to old for Minecraft!

I'll turn 18 later this year, and I've played minecraft since alpha in 2010, so that'll be 9 years now (wow). You are of course welcome in this community, and I don't think age should define you like childish, I mean, if you enjoy the game, join the great community, right? The minecraft community isn't dead, and we're alot of people here your age and upwards!
2
You're certainly welcome here! A lot of people here are older than 16.
2
I'm 19 years old and I still enjoy Minecraft. The only thing that changed for me is the way I see the game. I used to play only survival when I was younger, but now I love creating content for the players (resource packs, maps, etc).
2
You don't have to feel too old! There are adults who play Minecraft, and about your friends--well, we all like different thing! now to go dig up those onions...
1
you're never too old for minecraft :]
7
I'm fifty years old and play Minecraft. One lady who applied to my realm recently was 10 years older than me. If you ever get too old to enjoy a good game then I feel for ya. Don't listen to the haters.

snowy, eat a snickers. you start doubting the things you love when you're hungry.
1
Not at all.. Best example, TinfoilChef from the HermitCraft server.
2
All the minecraft youtubers are at least 20
make new friends. im sure you'll find someone
If i had the resources, I'd play until the game dies

who brought it back to life

Dude I'm 25 and a graduate student with a pretty diverse array of accomplishments. You really don't grow out of minecraft. I guess the way that I've changed over the years is that I try to make all my terraforming as ecologically and geologically plausible as I can while still maintaining its entertainment value for other players to play survival minecraft on. I guess I'm more interested in the management aspect than the playing aspect? lol
3
no. simply no. you are never too old to do what you love. don't let the opinions of others get in your way of doing something you are passionate about.
3
I don't think you could ever be too old for Minecraft, it provides a great way for people to get out their creativity. I'm 23 and I've been playing it for the past 6 years
3
I'm over 300 millions years old and still play it, it's a game for any age
7
Hey, i'm 15 and none of my friends played it and scoffed at me when I asked them if they played minecraft. Don't let anyone peer pressure you into doing anything!
1
I started playing Minecraft in 2012, I was 8 at the time. Now I am in high school but I have the urge to play it again. Minecraft let me be creative. Last year I came back to it, got bullied then quit. I don’t know if I am too old or if my classmates are rude.
4
Their simply rude.
3
not at all.

Minecraft is good though currently because new servers keep it fun.

This happens a lot in high school, wait a couple years when your in college, and i guarantee you'll meet others who play the game still. Same thing with Pokemon, or any game that a college age person would feel nostalgic about. Beside that, Minecraft is a creative outlet that's easy to mod and customize and build in and theirs no shame in it, think of yourself as a hacker, doing things in the game that it wasn't made to do. If anything you might seem fun and easy going for bringing it up and not acting shy about it.
