What is the Worst fad you've ever seen?
What do you think is the worst fad you've ever seen? (Also I'd like to clarify, if you like these trends, that's awesome, it's just my and other people's personal opinion). Being a guy from the early 2000s, I haven't seen TOO many fads arise, but from what I have seen, and in my opinion, the fidget spinner trend is probably the worst of all of them. The trend pretty much died out by the year 2018 (Best year ever), but the aftermath is still visible, and it makes all videos from that era seem kinda dated (You could argue that the dab trend was worse than this, but I can kind of justify it, because it was just kind of a dance move, and dances come and go frequently). I just... can fathom how these tiny (Typically three pronged) devices were able to make millions upon millions. I mean I guess they are kinda relaxing, and there are some cool designs, but I never understood the trend. What do you think is the worst fad to grace planet earth?

All of them. Having to be around 12 year olds should prove it to you. I rest my case.

It's true. Where is the wholesome love nowadays, where you stay with someone for long, help each other through your problems when things are bad, and enjoy life together when it's good, instead of just... pointlessly doing stuff I probably should not mention on this site.
4
I can definitely agree with this. Like, why is it that as soon as teens hit puberty, they wanna have kids!? Don't they know that having a baby can damage your life goals along with making Middle/High school an even more painful than it already is!? It's kind of disgusting if you ask me, and it's why I've never wanted kids in the first place.

Loom bands
and use of the word "oof" both on the internet and in real-life...
Those are probably the ones I personally found/find most irritating. 😅

I've given up on asking people to stop. 😅 Ultimately there's no way to stop these fads anyway. 😊

the entire existence of vaping. like people straight up think putting something into your lungs that is meant to change the color of your breath (albeit a short amount of time) when your breath should only be seen when it's cold out is healthy like...
3
i think vaping got a bit over into it id say. First, it was E-Cigs to give people an alternative to smoking cigarettes, then vaping came along and blew up the whole e-cigs thing.

2017 was what I call "the social massacre"
And two of the biggest culprits of it were #1 fidget spinners and #2 dabbing.

Fidget spinners and vaping, I'm fine with. There's memes of them, a lot of them, and it can be obnoxious, but it isn't the whole picture to what they are. (My family all has anxiety, we bought fidget spinners for the lols.. While its not as effective for me as a plush, it did kinda help. As a like..zone off while watching into it type thing. Vaping, my mom's had a vape. It helped her halfway quit cigarettes, but it's too expensive for us to keep up. My parents still use a vape for painkiller (legal where we are) and its easier/more effective than using other methods. But it's not able to be used much [runs out of charge fast]. There's a side to these two meme fashions that is serious, so they don't bother me.) Everyone has their peeves, but personally they don't bother me because theres a more serious side.
On serious side topics though,
My utmost irritation right now is the whole copyright/demonetization thing going on on YouTube. And you can get a strike if your claim is "wrong". Yea nah. Good intentions, bad execution. Copyright claims are too much of lazy coding and too open for exploits.
Anyway sorry for big-ish wordy post. Have a good day :)

TikTok. Not only is it the pinnacle of 'cringe', but it's also dangerous for little children (as young as 7-11 years old.) They have tried to fix this, I know. But there were so many kids (especially young girls) doing inappropriate things and there were much older people watching them. This isn't as big of a problem as it was, and you might call me out on this, but I'm going off of what I've heard, and unfortunately, seen.
3
Yeah I didn't really look into the whole TikTok craze when it first came out, it just looked lame. I see now that I made the right decision.
4
Same i just thought tiktok was just some kind of rip-off. Im glad i did because i saw an 8-year old who goes on there and now she learned the word thot.

People tampering with ice cream and other foods. Just disgusting. I also read about how a girl lost her hair because someone put nair in a bottle of conditioner. If you buy food try to get stuff that is sealed and maybe buy soaps online until this whole "trend" dies down.

Fidget spinners is the worst fad ive seen

Tide pod eating...
7
Fortnite, and Tide Pod Challenge because not only is it stupid, it also harmed a lot of people.
3
The tide pod challenge disgusts me, I hope the whole area 51 thing doesn't go in the same direction; what started as a joke turned to a tragedy.
5
If the Area 51 raid really does happen, it will be a blood bath
5
The tide pod thing was indeed a terrible idea, and I'm really not sure who thought poisoning themselves and then convincing other people to do the same thing was the best thing since sliced bread. At least we all became a little bit smarter after we learned that poisoning is likely to kill. As for Area 51, I don't think that'll escalate. I mean, unless they all want to die horribly.

People still just hate fortnite just to hate it i guess
7
Fortnite may be awful, but remember, it's keeping all the rage kids from Minecraft.
3
As much as we all hate it, it's protecting our chill-out-with-a-chill-game time, which is great.
3
Same.
2
I can honestly tolerate all these answers and understand them. People just hate fortnite nowadays just to hate it. There's no real argument behind their reasoning for it anyhow. Its just another extremely popular game that people play. TikTok was just a Vine replacement. Memes will always be here no matter what. Dabbing was just another dance. Everything else I can deal with but no one is tackling the biggest thing which is social media in general. Social media, in my opinion, can be seen as a necessary evil. It has good sides to it but it also has bad sides, and what we mainly see daily are its bad sides, especially in today's society.

Dabing. Nuff said

Definitely the animation in the 80s is the worst fad. Cartoons made specifically to sell toys to children while exploiting child labor is the worst fad I can think of. It deprived the animators of creativity and, you know, the human rights violations. Also haha minecraft wooo FARTnite lmao

Selfies, FNAF, meaningless hashtags, and emojis. Just... Why are they still alive as trends!? Shouldn't they be dead by now!?
3
Idk the only use I ever saw for emojis is that they could be used to get beyond language barriers, but I never liked any of the designs. Also one time I liked FNAF for like... a week. And the whole hashtag thing needs to die. I don't really like any of those trends either.
3
Fartnite, Fidget spinners, Asdf Movie, Big Chungus, Ugandan Knuckles and the attack of ebola. (These are all memes at this point.....)
3
U NO LIKE ADSF MOVIE!?!?

If I'm honest, I'd say fidget spinners and the dab are about equal. That said, however, we do kinda have a special case in which the dab is not so bad (There's just something really funny to me about watching Donkey Kong dabbing in a mercedes while flying through the air in slow motion). Other than that, though, I have no idea because fads just aren't my thing and I basically live under a rock.
