Ok, I'm hoping that I'm not the only person here that thinks this, but who else has thought about how flipping awesome it would be if there was a Minecraft map that built the earth completely to scale, with every single building in the whole world. I mean, this would probably be the hardest thing to ever do, and it would probably take someone years to complete just using Google Earth, but just think of how amazing it would be! I think someone or a group of people should just do something like a scale of Texas or a state, which would be easier, and then begin to expand on that. Comment below if you think this would be Awesome!

That would be a very cool idea, but there are a few problems:
Some buildings or even mountains on Earth would go far above the height limit in Minecraft. Mount Everest is about 3,000 feet tall. If you divide that by 3 to get the height roughly in meters, it would be 1,000 meters. Each block in Minecraft is only one meter high. If the height limit is 256, we would need to double it about 4 times to make it possible to build Mount Everest in Minecraft. And natural monuments like the Grand Canyon and the Deep Trench would also require a height limit octupling, or even decupling to be able to build it in Minecraft, since they are both a mile or two deep. So, it would be very cool if we could pulll this off, but things such as Mount Everest, The Grand Canyon, The Deep Trench, and the Burj Khalifa (the world's tallest building), would be impossible unless we could expand the height limit, which is also impossible unless Mojang edits the Minecraft coding.

But still, for all other things that aren't too tall or deep, we could pull it off, but it would take several years and a lot of studying. If we were to do it, I would probably take Google Earth and find some kind of filter or something to build Google Earth in Minecraft, like that World of Warcraft world the Yogscast checked out, which used the World of Warcraft files to automatically generate the map.

A company made the land of great britain some time back using some software that they developed. I think if someone were to develop software that was somehow able to replicate landscapes and edifices it could be done. That being said, the world would be 510 million square kilometers which equates to 510,000,000,000 million square meters. That means that it would be 1,992,187,500 chunks. And then you need to account for all of the blocks used for the buildings... Which is alot more data that the map would have. It would take a supercomputer and a Minecraft that is 10x better than the current one to run it

It may not be 1:1 scale, however lentebriesje did create a 1:1500 Earth.

I actually did see this, and it looked pretty good! But I was really talking about the buildings on it, and other things, not as much as the landscape. But, it would be a very good starting point!

It's really about 32 million blocks (or so I've heard) so plenty of room, and THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

I would bet satisfied with even just one continent on a 1:1 scale, I mean seriously. If it was built, I couldn't wait to see the people who made Project 1845 at the moment the project became a success

The minecraft world is not infinite, its only like 10 million blocks outward? (Probally way more than that) but I'm not sure if its large enough to fit THE ENTIRE WORLD, cities like manhattan, las vegas, HONG kong.....and bout...a lot more.

Map limitation

Visual cutoff point of a Minecraft map (Left is normal minecraft generation, the right is after limitation (Picture is incorrect)
While the map is infinite, the number of blocks the player may walk on is limited. The map, counting air as a block, and not counting blocks beyond and at where block physics fail (32,000,000 from the center) from top to bottom, and all in between, is essentially always 2.62144 × 1017 blocks big. The last point a person may still play normally, which in layman terms the very edge of the map is X/Z: 30,000,000. There is also a height limit of 255.
Beyond this edge, world generation is significantly simpler. It is interesting to note that if a person installs an x-ray mod or texture pack, he or she will notice that any chunk after the edge consists of just dirt, sand, stone and water with absolutely no vegetation. Caves do generate here, but no ores or structures appear inside, and the lighting in some of these caves may appear to make them look brighter with more contrast. If a person reaches it normally, be sure to notice that the sea floor of the chunks after the edge consists of only dirt. Making it stand out, another point to note is that if a person stands on the very border of the edge the ocean will look empty and 'seemingly' be able to see as though there was no water.

It could fit the earth.
I don't remember what exactly, but I saw a video explaining the sheer size of minecraft, and I remember it saying something about the earth being able to fit more than once in a total minecraft map.

It would be impossible to make the whole earth on a 1:1 scale cause that would literally crash any computer. An entire state, I still don't think so. A city maybe? Like Project 1845, would take about 5-10 years.

It's entirely possible to make Earth on a 1:1 scale. Minecraft doesn't load the entire map at once so, you'd just need enough RAM in WorldPainter or something to make a large enough map. That'd be tough to pull off, but when it was finished, the map would be totally playable.
