Ocean Explorer Trainee-- Here to learn!
Aquatic Resource Developer-- Make skins, texture packs, and other content for the group!
Marine Habitat Scholar-- Wall posting articles, photos, and facts about ocean habitat conservation and pollution!
Marine Science Advisor-- Handle FAQ, QnA, and answer questions about marine life and the group!
Marine Education Strategist-- Fun wall posts, fun facts, memes, and lighthearted fun!
Field Research Specialist-- Take your own photos and research findings and post them to the group! (optimized for people who live near large bodies of water)
Marine Project Coordinator-- Admin role, please ask before changing pfp, banner, or widgets for group. All the roles plus member and role management and admin abilities

You can pick more then one!

Rules?
PMC rules
No homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, racism, or any hateful practice or you will have your posting permissions revoked, I will not hesitate to remove you from the group.
Do not engage with people trying to start an argument, just leave them alone and let them stew, you do not need to interact
any spam posts will be removed
no cursing
Excluding hateful practice, you will have 3 warnings before you are temporarily removed from posting, and then another 3 until you are removed from the group
If we all follow the rules, it makes more time for learning and fun!

How to join?
Ask for a role in the Guest Book! feel free to ask for any role, but for roles with more freedom,
I will check your digital footprint on PMC to keep the integrity and reputation of the group

  Fun fact: Cephalopods (octopedes, squid, cuttlefish, nautilus) have blue blood! It's blue when oxygenated and clear when not!
  This is because instead of having hemoglobin, which is the protein in our blood that transports oxygen and gives it the red colour due to being iron based, their blood has hemocyanin, which is copper based and is speculated to be more efficient in low oxygen environments! I believe some species of crabs also have this blue, copper-based blood.

  Fun sad fact: Tunas must swim their whole life or they die. Their gils are built to work by force moving as the water isnt pumped into the organ by itself. They also sleep on somehow low energy mode to save energy and keep themselves alive

  Fun fact: Sea robins (also known as gurnards) are fish with six "legs" that they use to walk around and taste things!
  
  They are related to sea lions and scorpion fish, and have a few spines. Some resources say they have a mild poison in those spines, and others say they have no toxins at all, so I don't know anymore!
  
  They also croak with muscles connected to their swim bladder!

  Fun fact: Seals are voluntary breathers! Meaning that they cannot breathe unconsciously like we do and have to do it consciously. Their nose flaps are actually closed by default to prevent water from entering!
  
  I imagine this helps them hold their breathe when underwater, since the fact that not-breathing is the default would make it so they don't have to fight against the urge to breathe? Fascinating.

  Fun fact: Nautilus are the only species of cephalopods who are unable to colour change!
  They are also the only cephalopods with a hard outer shell, one heart instead of three, and grooves and ridges on their tentacles (of which they can have between fifty and ninety!) rather than suckers.

  true seals also have fused hips, which is why they need to "gallumph" on land, rather than being able to bring their hind flippers below them to sort of walk like sea lions do

  "micro-evolution" or "natural selection" does exist to some degree (animals adapting and those best adapted to an environment surviving to breed, further continuing their adapted lineage) but there's not enough wiggle room for a dog to adapt into a bird yknow?
  
  natural selection is just humans' selective breeding of animals but done by the conditions of their environment-- as much as we can breed a dog to be better at herding, or worse at living, we can't breed it into a bird
