Who do we get to meet at the Fall Festival?

    Hiya sprouts & pumpkins!

    This October we'll have an online in-game Fall Festival event. In this Jam you're tasked with designing NPC's (non-playable characters) for the occasion!

    Who will we meet?
    Design a character that members can meet somewhere around the Festival. They can be anyone you would expect to find at a Fall or Farming celebration!     Make sure to share your character's name. And feel free to write a little bit about them, we'd love to know more! Need ideas? Check the list & examples collection below.

    Where will we meet them?
    Where around the festival map would we run into your NPC? Let us know in the description of your submission! Browse through the festival build submissions to find their place. Or imagine a different spot!

    What will they tell us?
    Include some dialog with your NPC! What do you want them to say to the players who meet them? Maybe a pun that relates to their craft, a fun fact or good advice? Add a list of possible lines in the description of your submission! (This is optional.)


    By submitting in this Jam, you give permission for use of your submitted content in the PMC festival preparation and celebration.

    Festival

    Why is this Jam so early?
    This is the second of several Jams in which we prepare for the festival. In April we started building. Now it's time to design NPC's! Several Jams will follow. The PMC Festival Staff will bring the community efforts together for the event in October. We started with builds and follow up now with NPC's because they'll be the foundation of our celebration.
    Where/how will the festival take place?
    The Festival will take place on a Java version 1.21.5 Minecraft server. The Festival Staff will compile the festival map and server using community creations submitted in this and upcoming preparation-jams.
    Is Halloween part of the celebration?
    The event will take place in or around spooky season. We're happy to include a few elements that celebrate this time of fall, but the majority of the map will be scare-free!
    Will all the submitted NPC's be part of the festival event?
    We'll do our best, but unfortunately cannot guarantee that all submissions will be included. The Festival Staff has the challenging task of finding a suitable spot for any NPC on the festival map. It is up to them to pick which NPC's fit right with the theme, layout and other elements.

    Can I submit an HD skin?
    Sorry, nope. We'll have to stick to standard resolution!
    Which characters can I submit?
    We're looking for original characters. So get creative and design an imaginary friendly face or grungy goober! We're looking for NPC's with roles and professions that fit the Fall and Farming theme of the festival. Need ideas? Check the list!
    How do I submit dialog for my NPC?
    It is optional to include dialog. To do so, add the lines to the description of your submission. You can format them as a bullet list or in a table, with or without quotation marks. Make sure any quotes are family friendly! Humor and puns are encouraged. Festival Staff may make a selection from the suggested lines.

    Here's an example for baker shoo. He might say these things:
    • "I heard the bakery at the plaza sells pumpkin pie, isn't that awful!?"
    • "Some people think I'm a scarecrow, but I'm actually a friendly fella! How odd that they call us pumpkin folk "crows" anyhow..."
    • "Yesterday I baked a blueberry pie for the winner of the recipe contest. I hope they'll love it!"
    • "Can you help me find my tea towel? It's a green plaid. Very strange, I would swear it was here a moment ago!"
    • "Did you know? The largest pumpkin in the world weighed as much as a hippo!"

    Should I make my skin in a certain style?
    Various styles are welcome! But please keep in mind we are looking for NPC skins to use in-game. This means it's best to stay away from extreme use of colors or any light source/directional lighting in the shading of your skin.
    What is an NPC?
    NPC stands for non-playable character. It's a figure that you can meet in a game and oftentimes can interact with.
