I tried sum art, it sucks but it's passable, better than I thought I could do, drawing is set in a fantasy world I'm making, the stuff at the top is supposed to be rings bc it's a ringed planet, the rings are called "Heaven's Gate" or "The Great Arch" by the people of the world.

VR OS Search bar:




You'll open the search bar by grabbing the magnifying glass and pressing the controller's trigger, and then you can search for stuff in your system like apps and files, like a normal computer's search bar

ok I'm probably gonna stop for tonight now, but I redid the UV mapping for the generic file model (currently used for text files and unknown file types) in order to make it easier to add new textures:

UV mapping on the app icon model is decent, the main section is working fine, but the edges need work (Blender's UV mapping is not very user-friendly)

So, I was thinking about how there's a few OSs for VR headsets, but there aren't any you can just load up and install on any headset (like how you can install Linux or windows or whatever else on a PC, and how there's also a ton of android OSs for android phones that you can install, like Graphene OS.) And also, besides Apple's AR OS, there aren't any general XR OSs, they're all built for gaming, and also apple's looks cool, but honestly, if they're going to boast about being the first OS built for "Spatial computing"... they really need to improve it bc it's kind of disappointing. SO that brings me to my idea, a Proof-of-concept, open-source, VR OS that I'll try to develop in Godot. It's won't be a full OS ofc, but it'll be a proof-of-concept program with a customizable "Desktop" environment, file manager, image viewer, app launching functionality (the launched apps will show up in flat displays in the environment), and maybe more. Because the OS is designed for VR and not for a flat screen, all folders, documents, apps, etc. will be grabbable and draggable, so you can put them anywhere in the desktop environment or other areas, and will be 3D models, so I've begun making low-poly 3D models for common file types:

In order, the models are:

1: image file - no image (it has so many faces bc it'll bend like paper)

2: image file - hi-res image

3: image file - low-res image

4: folder (No texture yet)

5: app icon (Apps will be able to specify custom models and textures, but apps that do not will have their icon mapped onto this model, the UV mapping isn't done yet so I don't have images of it with textures on it)


Basically VR needs more OSs, so I decided to make a cool proof-of concept one that actually makes full use of what's possible with VR (Unlike some people -cough- Apple -cough-), like a 3d environment for the desktop and other areas of the computer, interactable 3D models for files and executables, and whatever else I think of. Plus it'll be a fun project to help me learn Godot, unfortunately this won't actually be a full OS you can install on a headset, but a normal program you run, and will probably be PCVR only, but if anyone knows how to develop an OS or get it working as it's own OS or something, or wants to help with the project, please do bc I have no idea what tf I'm doing and this'll end up being so unoptimized.
