Hello everyone!
Today is September 18th, HIV/AIDS awareness day!
I want to highlight this day because HIV and AIDS affect people daily. It may be an uncomfortable topic, but if we can't talk about it, then humanity will fall.
HIV and AIDS have killed far too many people. So, hence the day of awareness. It's most commonly associated with gay men, but it can be transmitted to anyone, whether through contaminated blood transfers, using contaminated syringes, even pregnancy, and, of course, sexual intimacy, hence the STI aspect of it.
Children can be born with HIV, too.
Let's all remember today that 44.2 million people have died from AIDS, which is a terrible fate to see.
Just being there for someone with HIV/AIDS can be a massive help to that individual's mental and social health.
No person should go without help.

As August's sweltering sun sets and the September sun rises, I want to give a general PSA!
September is celebrating a lot of things! National Hispanic Heritage month from September 15th to October 15th, but we generally celebrate it for the whole of September!
September also celebrates National Library card sign up month, so get yourselves a library card, a nice drink, and plenty of festive books for the harvest season coming up!
Speaking of which, happy harvests to those who need/want/appreciate it! We appreciate you 🫶! Fall is coming! And I won't tell if you start setting up for Halloween already 😉
September is also National Suicide Prevention Month! There's a few good handfuls of resources if you or someone you love is struggling, please stay safe!
Self-care, self-improvement, and self-love! Harvest, National Hispanic Heritage Month, and prevention! Can't think of a better month to celebrate it all!
And for Pride days, keep an eye out for these days!
Sept 18th, HIV/AIDS awareness day!
Sept 23rd week, Bisexual awareness week, with the 23rd being Bisexual day!
Sept 27th, national gay men's HIV/AIDS awareness day!
Additionally, the last week of September celebrates Banned Books, so swing by a bookstore and purchase a good banned book to bundle up to and drink your pumpkin lattes to! International breast and ovarian cancer awareness week is also the last week of September! Go cancer patients and recoverees!

guys im moving out for college for the first time in less than a week and i genuinely dont know how to feel :')

I was looking through my Youtube feed when I saw something that really made me open my eyes.
See, I work at a library. It's a low budget one, there's not a lot of money to just spend on stuff, so we spend it on programs and books rather than decorations or renovations. Well, I saw a video about a wheelchair user in a grocery aisle. I don't really remember the rest of it, but I realized something:
My library is not wheelchair friendly.
And I'm so sorry to the wheelchair community of my city.
It's wheelchair accessible, with automatic doors, plenty of space, and big bathrooms (no stalls, just two bathrooms, nongendered). But the shelves for the books themselves are NOT big enough. It's barely big enough for two people to stand side by side. We'd be squished between the shelves.
I feel really bad for not noticing this sooner, but I suppose it makes sense. It's disability pride month, so I guess it's fitting that I figured it out now.
I just hope that at least some wheelchair users can use our library.

As this month is Disability Pride Month (Sometimes also known as Disability Visibility month or Disability Awareness Month), I wanted to say:
All disabilities are valid! From physical to mental to emotional!
In five days, it will have been the 36th anniversary for the creation of ADA, or the Americans with Disabilities Act.
This act ensures that disabled Americans can get equal opportunities, defined as a civil rights act. It requires translators for the deaf, accommodations into buildings for the physically disabled, and equal pay for those who are disabled to those who are not!
This includes!
Walking, seeing, hearing, breathing, heart, immune, and digestive system disability, inability, or alteration that affects you! Chronic stress, Chronic anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, OCD, PTSD, DID, and *so much more* are also considered disabilities! Same with colorblindness!
Thank you for coming to my disability talk! Just remember: you deserve love no matter what's different or wrong with you! 🫶
