    With the new function to disable public skin downloads, I've taken the download option off of my Jam contest entries. Everything else is still FTU and accessible like before.

    You may be wondering why; and it's a bit of a silly reason. I've seen players mistake my jam entries for FTU skins that ended up getting used on the server I roleplay on too. So when I wanted to still use one myself but then found someone else playing what was basically a dupe of my character, I was like "well.. this is awkward" LOL. So let's I hope don't run into that problem again going forward.

    In other news, I was going to resume regular uploads once a kind of personal life cannon event happened. However, it hasn't happened yet - so that's a little awkward, too. I'm ready to resume when it does happen though, and will be happy to come back for another year or half-year.

    Hey! So as some of you already know I was featured in Minecraft Live Pre-Show

    I submitted the video in February and received an email recently that they chose me.
    I assumed they're gonna use the full minute they required me, but they used just one shot from it
    it does feel like a couple of drops of disappointment but in a bucket of happiness 'cause I am extremely grateful I got in!
    it just stole a point I was trying to make with my full video

    I wanted to address that I don't claim anyone's builds that were used for the Fall Festival Quest map
    I just collected memories and made a video about them
    so as cringy as it is - I decided to make the video available for everyone to see
    I appreciate all of your efforts and this is our victory not just mine!
    I'm gonna do my best to deliver you new experiences in Quests this year too!

    That one is 224 x 224, BUT I gotta say it did feel a little too big for the details I needed. And honestly, unasked for advice, if you're ever struggling; just keep trying different multiples of 16x. I find it works well for the Minecraft centered minds cx

    Bluesky, functionally, is closer to an older version of Twitter. But Twitter, since its new ownership, has been a hot flaming mess rolling downhill toward a landfill. In the past few years, theres been way more tolerance for harassment and extremist content, an algorithm driven by "AI", it allows art to be fed directly into generative image programs on site, a paid boost system, mass staff firings, and the removal of safety features

    Bluesky isn't perfect or better or whatnot, it's just SAFER basically

    We got a response from Skinseed.

    They "fine-tuned" on an unnamed base diffusion model and "public domain" skins, then call it ethical. I smell bull

    It seems they have no intention on being direct and providing sources, while also attempting emotional appeal to shed responsibly. BUT! We now know they're reading and responding to emails. Keep the pressure up!

    If you DO happen to get a response from Skinseed with their data sourcing (that isn't just "public dataset", I'm looking for source names and links), please contact me immediately so I can research the database.

    Google images are publicly visible! Not public domain. If you search that again on google, add the filter in images for "Public Domain". Your skins and art should NOT be showing up there. (But that is one way data is scraped for AI image training)

    All skins you upload to any website, unless permission was granted otherwise, are your legal intellectual property. The sites are given permission to display the skins and users are allowed to use them for personal use, but permission ends there

    I think that email works perfectly fine! It's polite and clear on your intentions, and you're totally allowed to send an email like that.

    You can't get in trouble for asking a company to not use your art. Even as a minor, you still own the rights to the things you make. The only thing that changes because of it, is if they did take your art, a parent or guardian would need to help with anything legal (which you have NO expectation to do, dw).

    Also unfortunately right now, the laws really haven't caught up to AI generation and how it works with IP, and we don't expect them to (at least not in the next four years). But it will be a digital record that shows you did not consent to your art being used. Which is definitely important right now since they refuse to disclose their sources. The more pressure we put on them and the more you know your rights, the more likely they are to cave!

    Skinseed could be using YOUR Minecraft skin for AI image generation. Minecraft skin artists deserve to know if their work is being used to make AI generated skins. This "dataset" is so vague, it could be anything from IP protected archives to people's personal Minecraft skins.

    What can you do? ↓



    I did reach out for comment via email, but at this time there has been to reply. WHAT WE WANT TO KNOW:

    1. Which database was used to train your upcoming model? Was it created with proper permissions and/or compensation, or was it sourced from external archives?

    2. Were all creators whose work is in your dataset aware of it appearing in the dataset? Did they all consent to their data being used for generative training?

    3. Will the AI generated content and the use of it contribute to your ad revenue? This includes scrolling AI generated archives and ads showing up.

    4. Do you have plans to monetize, since most models are pay to use?

    5. Does your team have plans to implement environmental offsets or put sustainability measures in place? Seeing as image generation uses a large amount of resources.



    ANY Minecraft artists, people who have made Minecraft skins, or AI haters! PLEASE help us let Skinseed know we do NOT want AI and we are tired of theft!

    For the time being, I highly encourage avoiding use of the Skinseed app on any device. They make revenue off of ad income. So using it = more money in Skinseed's pocket.

    If this goes through, this will be the largest, most accessible, AI Minecraft skin generator. This is terrifying.

    that's what my immediate thought was too when i saw their message for the first time. like, is this publicly available dataset just pmc/skindex/namemc? weirdly, i think namemc might be the scummiest one they could take from (though they'd ALL be mega-scummy) - those are personal skins, not even posted w/ the intent for others to use them.
