People who have accounts can ask me questions in real time, but I understand since I don't use it very much either! XD In case you want to ask me something during the stream feel free to send me a DM when you want.

Yes the Seed storage was how I chose to announce them, almost an year ago, but how they worked would've remained a mystery until the Infinity City project was submitted at the contest a few weeks later :)
I go now to make the last preparations...

Procedural Metropolis release and presentation stream!

Keep calm! The city is not finished yet, and there's still a lot to do for me.
Anyway, I estimate that it'll be completed in a week!
I'm planning to do a short presentation this Friday on twitch, just before the release: www.twitch.tv/gheppio
Since the work is not done yet, other news will follow in the next days.

Here's the official list of all the 342 builds included into the city:

    List of Procedural Metropolis Buildings

And here is the gallery with all the respective certificates of admission:

    Status report: a multidimensional caretaker

Here's the update on the situation!
All the 342 buildings have been pre-processed already, I've checked every corner looking out for possible bugs.
As I imagined, water creates glitches when in contact with stair and slabs, so the pasted buildings are flooded! (Look at the examples below :O)
I had to make some little corrections to some builds to avoid these problems (don't worry, we're talking about very little and discrete changes, all of them will be listed and available to check when the work will be done)
Looking after all these builds in these many worlds, checking everything to fix it and make the buildings shine, makes me feel like a very peculiar caretaker: it's my responsibility to take care after all your builds until the city gets delivered back to you! :-D

Now I'm proceeding to save the assets into the Infinity Matrix, the procedure consists in saving the builds in small batches and then test the integrity and the city generation with only the newly added buildings. Newly found bugs in the builds or in the machine are then corrected. Above you can see a batch of builds passing through my laboratory; after they've been checked a city will be created in a separate world containing these builds only, as a final testing field to look for the last eventual abnormalities.
When all the batches will be included, I'll reconfigure the machines to work at full capacity and the city will be ready!
At the moment, more or less the 50% of the assets has been already included, they still need to be tested though.
A new update will arrive soon!

(floods are the result of a minecraft bug on how water is handled by stairs/slabs placed by commands/structure blocks. Small changes allow to avoid the bug from happening)

We've mentioned it before but wanted to reach out through a wall post just in case you missed it.

Has a submission caught your eye this week? An art blog, skin, project, or pack? Perhaps your particularly proud of your own creation. Maybe you have a funny Minecraft joke or comic! PM us! Tell us a little bit about why that specific submission caught your eye or what you like about it. Hello,

I have been working for more than a year on my adventure map The Trial of Air that got finished just this week. I have been experiencing some trouble getting the word out to people who might want to play it. It is an absolute work of love since I'm a stay at home dad that has barely an hour every day to do any minecraft. I was just so inspired by the Legend of Zelda games that I have tried, in some small way, to achieve the same quality of game play in a minecraft map. I think that what makes my map special, is the amount of work that I have put into making the trial look as impressive as I possibly could. With a main atrium that spans maximum world height, the Trial of Air is as big of an adventure map as you will ever see. Link: https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/the-trial-of-air/๏ปฟ

Contest results... and admissions to the Infinity Project!

Yesterday the Procedural Metropolis - Contemporary edition contest finally concluded and the final leaderboard has been revealed.
Congratulations to Creation Manufactory, Sketchzi and window456123 for taking the first three places, and my compliments also to all the other fantastic submissions!
Anyways, the fun is not over yet: check your private messages, those of you which have been selected to be part of the
Infinity Project will have received one of these certificates of admission, they come with a unique serial number too.
Be warned, it'will require some time to prepare a city with so many buildings, but I'll keep you updated regularly via wall posts.
Let the assembly of the procedural metropolis begin!

    A Stack of Worlds

Here are all the contest submissions, a total of 64! A proper "stack" of worlds!
Now I'm going to explore in detail all of them in order to evaluate their applicability to the Infinity Project.
An incredible exploration through different words awaits me :-) On the accepted wolds there will be a lot to do, before integrating the new structures in the machine.
The main actions performed on each submission will be:
    • Define road attachment points: all builds that have regular car entrances (like parking lots for example) will be programmed to interface correctly with the city's road network.
    • Check stability of water pools: sadly, in 1.15, when water is placed through structure block or via command there is the risk that it glitches through stairs or slab if they're at the boundary of the pool. This may cause catastrophic flooding during the city generation Process. I'll have to hunt down possible water bugs and fix them individually with various workarounds.
    • Eventually modify some borders to integrate better the buildings in the urban tissue (in case of doors that couldn't be opened or to correctly match roads with road entrances). Only in extreme cases, 95% of the build are fine already.
    • Fix small eventual mistakes in case the will of the builder is clear (for example a single missing piece of glass in a big window or a missing single block on a regular floor texture etc...)
Stay prepared! The finalists will be announced in three days, but also who doesn't make into the finalists can still be selected for the project!

Procedural Metropolis Project Contest: now reviewing!

The submission window for the Procedural Metropolis contest is now closed, and I can say with certainty that it has been a success! The event received a very positive feedback and more than 60 submissions with most of them that are also extremely creative! You know, it required me a lot of time to think of the best way to make a contest like this possible, designing rules, a template world etc... self-replicating machines aren't quite easy to interface and I wanted to make things as easy as possible for participants: "just build in those spaces, I'll take care of the rest".
I'm happy to see that what seemed an initial limitation turned instead into a challenge that pushed many of you to think outside the box and to achieve even greater results :-)

Now the contest will continue to its further phases, but after the winners will be declared, there will still be a lot to to... at least for me!
In the picture above, you can see what happens when an Infinity Seed is activated for around 10 minutes in a flat area (seriously the render took me more than generating what's in the picture!) After the contest is finished, if you're a participant, you'll have the possibility to be admitted to the Project Infinity. Your house set will be verified and integrated into the Infinity Matrix by me; and your builds may pop up in infinite worlds in cities of potentially infinite size.
The tool will be available for everyone, a city of the PMC members!

    Hello everybody!
I'm writing this to inform you that I'm finalizing the last details of the Infinity engine that I'm preparing for the Procedural Metropolis project contest! At the moment I'm performing some fine tuning and generating a batch of testing worlds to see if I'm satisfied with the final result in terms of urban tissue structure.

At the moment the engine contains only my example builds, but in the future the city will be filled with the buildings of all the admitted participants, who knows, yours maybe :)

Please notice the Seed, that generated everything in the present world.
