Self-sabotage. Avoidance. It's a very bad, very real habit of mine, as a response to stress. PMC, I both love it and hate it, because it stresses me out, and yet I want to be involved.

I frequently come and go, it's like the tide, an endless push-and-pull. But it's been over 9 months, and I still haven't announced the results for my steampunk contest. I feel awful about it, but really, it's my fault for avoiding PMC for so long.

And so, I apologise. I'm contemplating how to make it somewhat better, because I really shouldn't have left in the middle of running my own contest.

nospurratu, -angel-, GalacticMelody, @ArachnaKid, JuhoFrog, 3leafcloverr, Mythic_Gem, @Pidge_Luminosity, Hibiki Ekko, OneCord, Amaranth, JamesTDG and whoever else submitted an entry after I disappeared.

If you're still active/alive, I offer you a free request. It's a massive commitment on my part, but I also plan on making a series of videos about how I make skins. If you don't know what to request, please give me something that you would like to see turned into a skin, but have no idea how to go about it. Please, not too hard, though, it must be possible to make humanoid.

Of course, you don't have to request something, but the offer is there.

As for the contest, I think I may need to cancel it.

Thanks for reading, if you did,
    Mourna
    JamesTDG2020-04-03 19:54:18
Dang, well, also, what skin did you think was the best one? (I stopped using PMC for quite some time)
    3leafcloverr2020-02-25 21:01:39
oh, im sorry, i never saw this, its quite alright, i only make skins for fun :)
    Amaranth2020-01-19 03:15:04
    Welcome back to the community!
I understand how you feel, I come and go too and honestly haven't been online much either the past few months.
If you need "you" time, you should take it and don't feel bad about it. People will understand, beside minecraft and anything crafty related to it should be fun, not something forced upon.

As for your or any contests.. I also see it as an opportunity to create something new and unique when I have myself no clue what to make.
I'd like to thank you for your offer, but I have no need for a request other than: Please take good care of yourself, do it on your terms, if you don't feel like it, don't push it!
    Hibiki Ekko2020-01-18 22:09:07
I'm glad to see you are active again, and I hope you've enjoyed your much needed break. Totally relatable ;) Regarding the contest, or contests in general, I see them as an opportunity to make something unique and wonderful, no matter the outcome :) Having fun is the most important thing, after all. It is very kind of you to offer to make requests for all of us who entered. My only request is that you keep in mind, to make every skin in your own time, with no stress, and have fun doing it ♥
    nospurratu2020-01-17 13:01:45
As Dragan mentioned, PMC isn't a job. You have no obligation to be active 24/7 or even online once a week; your schedule, if you even want one, is up to you :)

You are a living, breathing person in your own world. You have life outside of a Minecraft website :)
    Draganette2020-01-16 21:18:19
PMC isn't your job, we should be thanking you for these contest.
    -angel-2020-01-16 21:16:13
    Hey,
Thank you for such a kind offer, and I understand you feel bad about becoming inactive during the middle of a contest. It's quite alright, as I can relate since I haven't been on in such a long time. No need for a request from me.
    Thanks,
    Jax

    Skinning mentorship ting:
In the past several skinning mentorship programs have been attempted, some succeeding and most failing. Because I've learnt nothing from that, I am going to give one a try. In said program I'll introduce you mostly to how to do the gradient skin style, that is mostly dead on pmc at this point ( :c ). I have no clue if any of you are interested, in case you are let me give you a brief description of what to expect and what you should have in your baggage to join.

What to expect from me and other skinners that comment on your work:

    • Harsher criticism than you're used to on pmc. To help you improve, there will not be much holding back. The better you get the more nitpicky it will get - for the most part this has helped a lot of older skinners get really good, so it's a tried method with success.
    • That you can at any given time get thoughts on your skins.
    • An introduction to a lot of new skinners and skin principles.
    • Introduction to more common practices of course.
    • Challenges and skin ideas to broaden your perspective on skinning.
    What is expected of you:

    • Ability to take feedback, but also to think about why said feedback is given. Feedback is not a must to implement, so rather think about why it's given. For the most part I'll try to warrant my feedback, so you get helped towards understanding why I think the way I do. But you should also think about it yourself.
    • That you're motivated and dedicated.
    • That you're willing to do more than one type of skin (eg. not just knights or teen skins).
    • The willingness to explore and research several styles - no answers will just be given to you.
    • That you can communicate over discord (because communicating over pmc pms is a bit clunky.
If you're interested hit me up with a pm. I live in CET/CEST, so it's an advantage for me if you're around that timezone. There is no set formula to applying, but think about showing off your current work and describing what skins you like and don't like and what your goal for making skins is etc.

Some people post several skins a week, I don't know how they do it. It takes a lot of tenacity to keep up that motivation.
    thatscool2019-04-08 04:51:46

Just realised that this is my 50th submission...

At least, since I drafted all my awful beginner skins 3 years ago.

    Thanks ^~^

It's been a day, but only now does my brain feel functional enough to work.

I've received my prize for placing 3rd in Naimarra's reshade contest, a gorgeous skin of my OC Celia ^~^

I was going to finish up and post my entry for the PMC Historical Splendour contest today, but then I accidentally consumed something I'm allergic to and gave myself a migraine, rip. Hopefully, it'll get done tomorrow.
    living_doodle2019-03-30 02:10:30
I have a migraine too, oof
    Wildflowers2019-03-30 02:08:25
Oh gosh, feel better! Migraines are the worstt.

If I ever take several days to respond to your comment, it's not because I'm ignoring, it's quite the opposite. It's because I value your words so much that I overthink my response and wind up procrastinating due to my social awkwardness. xD

I really appreciate everyone who comments on my skins or interacts with me positively on this site.

My shading is a mess rn. I better not skin today, else it'll end up a disaster xD I shouldn't force it, we all have off days.
  • Mourna
    Public • March 13, 2019, 4:57 am
I've started putting even more thought into my shading, which is probably a good thing... but it means half the time I no longer know what I'm doing, ahaha *nervous laughter*

Be prepared, my next few skins may be below standard until I get it sorted out xD
    DinowCookie2019-03-13 06:49:15
Don't give up though \o/ experimenting is how you learn. Also I'm in the same boat, half of the time I don't really know what I am doing either. s😅

I reached 1111 subscribers today! Shoutout to kattish for being number 1111!

And do you know what this means? It means I'm going to be launching the long-planned for skin contest soon.
    Please vote for the theme.

I still need to bulk out the prizes, and I don't know anyone here well enough to ask for judges. I'm looking for two people with a decent amount of experience. Let me know if you're interested. ^~^
    Caeleana2019-03-12 09:41:01

I'm getting a new laptop soon. It's pretty exciting!
    Marma2019-03-08 06:55:34
Oooo. That's fun. :3 Personally, I've only ever used Dells. x3 So I'm not too sure how good HPs are. I know they're good but I've never personally used one is what I mean. But if one day you don't need a laptop for games and just for work, I would recommend a Dell someday. My first one lasted me 5 years. x3 I hope you have a lot of fun with your new laptop and congratz to when you do get it!
    DinowCookie2019-03-08 06:54:57
With that budget and an HP laptop it should be pretty doable to run shaders in Minecraft I think. HP sure is one of the better laptop brands ^_^ I currently have my 5 years old one which is also HP, still works pretty well, but I've outgrown it so started my PC building project. 👍
    Mourna2019-03-08 06:47:15
I will, and thanks, but there is a particular model I'm eyeing off ^~^
    Marma2019-03-08 06:45:09
Oooh! That sounds like fun. :) HPs aren't bad either. But if I were you, I'd recommend looking at some others. Nothing wrong with HP, you might just stumble upon a better one in your price point. But I wish you good luck ^3^/
    Mourna2019-03-08 06:38:44
Probably a HP. All my previous laptops were, so it's familiar territory. My current one is about 3 years old and it's lasted well, despite some broken keys and other functions on their way out. I have a price range of just over a thousand dollars so I can get something with a modicum of structural integrity and maybe I'll be able to run the lightest of shaders in MC, which I've always wanted to do :D
    DinowCookie2019-03-08 06:34:33
Awesome :D which are you getting?

I'm 10 away from the miraculous milestone of 1,111 subs!! Its' taken years, and I can hardly believe it. When I get there, I'll organise a contest in celebration. Would you like a poll to choose the theme? If not I could choose, but it would be nice to get many participants. ^~^

I need to stop dobbing myself into contests. It's still perfectly manageable, but if it keeps up I'll wind up mildly stressed. School just started up and I'm doing three times as many subjects this year xD
    amalien2019-02-21 06:49:58
i think i could fill a novel with all of the contests i've forgotten about :))) why am i like this

    Hey :D
    thatscool2019-02-12 07:45:56
dats kinda a good thing lol,
atleast ur not like me n like "uk wot? stuff this, who cares about shading"
    Mourna2019-02-12 07:37:58
;p some skins sit around in my folder for 2+ years... But yeah, I have this mild ocd mindset where I can't do simplicity xD
    thatscool2019-02-12 07:30:38
if i bothered shading as complicated as u it would probli take 2 yrs to finish 1 skin.

    which is why I don't.
