Hey everyone, more serious wallpost today. As you may or may not know, the 24th was Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day. I wasn’t planning on making this post, but I’ve just returned from a religious service about it, and was inspired to write this.

I don’t talk about it often, especially not online, but my family are the descendants of Auschwitz survivors. My great grandmother and great grandfather lived through the deaths of their individual families (their parents, spouses, children, everyone) before meeting each other in a displacement camp. If either of them had not made it, the three generations that are/were alive after them would never have been born. To put it shortly, this holiday and the message it conveys is incredibly important to me.

It’s crucial to remember moments like this in history, and to recall the stories and names and words of those who experienced it so it doesn’t occur again. And even if the 24th is the designated ‘day of remembrance’ for the Holocaust, this doesn’t mean that we should suddenly forget the sentiment of not tolerating hatred and scapegoating immediately after.

Given the political climate of the modern day and constant presence of subtle and not-so-subtle antisemitism, as well as other forms of xenophobia, banding together to fight against hate is becoming ever more important. It might be naïve to hope for a world without bigotry right now, but if everyone shares that same naïveté and truly makes an effort to achieve that vision, it becomes real and possible.

If a future where war is an outlandish concept is at all feasible, we should do everything in our power to work towards it. 🇮🇱🇵🇸

Have a good day, and stay safe. <3

I need to meet my weekly wallpost quota so here is another meaningless thought:
In a nuclear explosion, there is some distance of the radius where grocery store frozen foods could be cooked to perfection.

it'd be mad funny if i die in a nuclear bombing and the people who find my body are just like "yo this is a massive costco rotisserie chicken wth"
