Welcome to FlenixCities Research!

Requires FlenixCitiesCore

NOTE: This mod is effectively abandoned. I will still update what there is (which is mostly decorative) as FlenixCities gets updated - but I probably won't add any new content.

This page is merely a stub for now; I want your ideas though!

The mod is designed for building a modern research facility, using FlenixCities. Currently, there are only decoration blocks and the "Simple Player Detector". There are no crafting recipes either; this is 5% complete after all.

To use the detector, place it down. Shift-left-click to increase range, shift-right-click to decrease. There's a minimum of 1, and a max of 32.

The mod will eventually add lots of things like this, all of which will have a lot of upgrade options available through "researching". My current planned blocks & items:

- Player Detector
- Fingerprint Scanner
- Biometric Scanner
- Iris Scanner
- CCTV Camera (only LOGS players, no visual feed planned)
- Modular advanced weapons and tools (Very different to tinkers*)
- Body hacking & Implants
- Genetic Modification (crops & animals)

Bear in mind none of these (bar the basic Player Detector) are included just yet.

A bit more detail...
You'd start by creating a new type of crafting table, which will be used for the rest of the mod. You'll also need a computer, various input devices and a few other things. All of these together make up a single research station.

You can then use the research station to research! I've not entirely decided how research will work yet, but it's something which is supposed to be a very slow process. A lot of the stuff in this mod will be quite late-game.
I'm thinking of a combination of time-based (waiting sometimes real life days or even weeks for the high end stuff), and maybe some sort of mini game in which you find information on the computer.

This process has to be carried out for everything you want to research, and different things will take a different amount of time. You'll be able to research nearly anything - blocks, items, mobs and so on.

Once you have researched whatever you are studying, you can store the data for later use. This can be stored in a hard drive block (or maybe directly to an in-game server or computer), or in an item such as a memory stick. Data can be copied, but is auto-encrypted on any portable device so only the owning player can access it (to stop easy sharing). Data on a hard placed PC or Server can be accessed by anyone, and downloaded to anyones portable device.

Next, you can use this data to create new things! There will be fundamental things you will have to research in order to make the basic stuff (eg, you might need to analyze tin before making a circuit board), and then you can research further for upgrades.

Most of the devices and tools made by this mod will be modular. For example, if you make a new drill (a pickaxe), you can apply different types of upgrades as you unlock them. Things will be tiered, so you can't have the best drill head on the worst drill body. The materials and techniques you use will define the statistics of the tool or weapon you create - In that aspect it is similar to Tinkers Construct, but this is aimed more at a modernized audience. I want my mod to work well with tinkers, not against it.

Genetic Modification
Later in the game, you'll be able to start modifying mobs, food, and crops. For example, you could splice the detonation genes of a creeper into a skeleton, causing the skeleton to explode when near a target. You could then modify its brain patterns so the kamikaze skeleton will defend you against targets.

You'll also be able to add implants to your body. These implants have a power and/or durability requirement, and on that aspect are not unlimited. They do, however, persist past death- or in some cases prevent death entirely.
I plan on doing the obvious kind, for example a pickaxe built into your hand, right up to interesting and new things - such as maybe a device which makes you auto-dodge a killing blow and survive the final shot which would've killed you.

This is still very much alpha and right now I'm just throwing ideas around. I'm totally open to suggestions, so please throw them at me!

Important note about reviews & vides:
I know that later down the line, people will want to make "mod spotlights" and stuff about this.
If you do, I politely ask you to NOT reveal any of the research aspects. Yeah, I'm pulling a Ubisoft on you.

The main idea of this mod is research; trial and error. I do NOT want guides going up on how to beat it quickly, I want each person to try and learn it on their own. Don't ruin the fun for everyone!

When I've added the research aspect, I'll include an "example" one which will be used for a tutorial so people know HOW to research - that can be shown in videos. End results can be shown too - just not the process.

Ending note;
This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOOf5Cli1PA) was the sole inspiration for this mod. The blocks in that video are NOT from this mod; I remade the textures from scratch as masterzh had them in a private mod. He seemed more than happy for me to remake the blocks in this way and was quite excited that he inspired me; in that video you can see he's using some of my other blocks from FlenixCities :P If you like that video as much as I did, share it around - it really needs more views because it's truly spectacular.

If you do decide to do visual feed for the camera's, you could simply TP the player to where to where the camera is and add a  HUD and a placeholder for the player. Maybe a "frequency" too?

I've thought of doing that, but it seems kind of tacky. It'd work, but I'd much rather have the camera feed rendered on a block the player can just look at - kind of like how iChun's portal mod works when on the advanced render settings.

But, if you've ever used Portal, you'll know you need an amazing computer to use the advanced render settings - and I don't want to give players an advantage in-game just for having a good computer.

single player is obviously fine as you aren't redistributing :P
If you're only using my mods with a few friends just direct them to my website, if it's with other mods then feel freeto zip up and send them a pack instead.
