This is ArdaCraft's recreation of Annúminas, a city on the shores of Lake Evendim founded by Elendil in S.A. 3320, following the destruction of Númenor. His followers and fellow survivors, the Dúnedain, established a kingdom that was originally unified; but would later be known as the kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor. Annúminas was established as capital of Arnor for several centuries; and was home to the Annúminas-stone, one of the three palantíri of the northernmost kingdom of the Dúnedain. After the defeat of Sauron and the Disaster of the Gladden Fields, the number of the Dúnedain of Arnor began to dwindle, until eventually Annúminas was deserted and Fornost Erain became the capital. After T.A. 861 the ruins of Annúminas belonged to the petty Arnorian successor kingdom of Arthedain, and after T.A. 1601 the Shire was founded just to the south of the city.

At the time of the coronation of King Elessar at the end of the Third Age, Annúminas had lain in ruins for well over two thousand years, yet Aragorn soon set his mind to preparing a place to stay in the ancient city. Aragorn sometimes came north to his house in Annúminas restored and stayed for a while beside Lake Evendim, and when he visited, everyone in the Shire was said to be glad. However, our map is set before these events, and for now the ruins await the return of the king.
