Hello,
The sant'Egidio Basilica is located in Cheraro, next to the castello (https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/castello-buoncontenti/) and it's been one of the foundations of count Egidio Buoncontenti (hence the name of its holy patron).
The tyrant Egidio was a mysterious character: it's not certain, but he was probably an engineer in the quarries. Later, he eventually gave up this profession and decided to found his won mercenary company. During the visit of the emperor (probably Charles IV) in Italy, he turned uot to be an useful ally, that's why he obtained legal 'permission' to conquer the town and maintain it as his dynastic posession.
The Basilica, one of his most magnificent investments, is the second-biggest church in the whole state (only the raciglianese cathedral is bigger: https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/cathedral-of-santa-maria-assunta-ovos-rustic-redemption-and-alto-shader/) and has a classic shape with three naves and a massive apse, which also serves as a part of the town walls.
Unlike the castle, it's never been finished, since the family disappeared and no other citizens could affor, or be interested in completing the construction. That's why in some parts you can see scffolds, and some of its parts are not covered with marble. Despite its current state, the church serves as an ordinary parish and has obtained the rank of 'basilica', due to its importance for the town. The main inspiration derives from the cathedral at Ferrara.
If You'd like to see the whole project I advise to refer to my prievous submission, or to click the link indicated below.
