Not To Scale
The Island is thinner and shorter then it is supposed to be. The mesurements I used aparently are horribly inaccurate when transated to minecraft, the island ended up to thin and to short. About the only thing I can say is probably accurate is the part that sticks off on the south end and the dock. The mountain is probably shorter then it should be as well. But I tried. So instead I'll try to make some of the bigger buildings as accurate as I can and hopefully squeeze in enough extra buildings to fill in for what has to be left out.
This build is heavily inspired by Hashima, also known as Gunkanjima or Gunkanshima (Battleship Island), however this is not a replica. The general shape is very similar to the real island, however with differences effected by Minecraft limitation and simply not enough information available for accuracy.
Edit 2: Ok, After finding and taking a bucket load of measurements (still need to take measurements of the mountain for placement and height which is proving difficult to do, much less find.) I have begun work on the base... and it's already proven to large for the original plan, so instead of migrating it from the build map onto the above mentioned cause it dwarfs that. I'm going to transfer the NPC villages into one large island village as the finish point for the survival map.
Edit 3: Check Updates for info. Added world seed for those who want to see the map as it was prior to my editing. I only know it to work like this in 1.8, Haven't tried it in 1.9 and it's supposed to create a large snow biome in 1.7 below.

Edit 6: Need help, check updates.
Survival Hashima rules:
1. You can NOT jump from the island, you must stay on the island or go underground.
2. You can not build a boat, though there will be one at the tunnel to the Finish mark
3. You can mine all you want beyond the original layout, however you cannot any of the island above or remove the mineshaft braces.
4. Your goal is to find a way off the island and reach help, or survive on the island for as long as possible without dieing.
5. Only wood useable on the island is in specifically marked rubble piles thought the island and underground. All other wood is off-limits.
The story for survival is: You awake to the sound of crashing waves. Looking around you find yourself on a small platform just off a large island sitting high out of the water with no other land in site. You think of swimming for it but with no idea how far the nearest habitable land is, or even in what direction you think better. Looking back over the island you notice the industrial equipment rusting away, a large mountain sits along the middle with some buildings visible on either side and behind. There is a chance someone is still living here, though the island looks pretty uninhabited form your vantage point. There are still a few metal girders connecting your platform to the island, it'll be tricky but it's your only hope of getting to some form of shelter.
Available:
Hashima Island Empty w Watch-Tower (great for making a island server or giant farm)
Under development:
un-destroyed (unfurnished but fully intact)
Desolate (great for Survival Island)
Map:
Survival Island Game
Also I am using Glimmar's Steampunk v2.8 Texture Pack because it works perfectly for this project. However it shouldn't be necessary unless you want to have the same views I have.

Update #11 : by Rubydust 11/02/2011 6:45:24 pmNov 2nd, 2011
At impass, can't think of good designs for additional buildings, so I'm opening it up to others. If you want to make a building for this project please use the empty schematic and over head screen shot for basic placement refernces. After that it's up to you.
Building construction rules:
All buildings need to be made of stone to represent cement unless they are mining machinery.
Homes: The floor of a home is specific to give it that traditional feel. First fill the entire floor area with stone. Add a 2x1x3 (LxD/WxH) wall dirctly on the sides of the door if it's not already against a wall. Next put a layer of wood ontop the stone (do not replace stone as that is the roof whe you copy in MCEdit for the next floor) Leve the two blocks by the door empty though. Now place a woo stair block against the wood floor so that when you enter through the door you have the stone entryway, and the Step up to the actualy room floor.
And there you have it, a traditional (yet cramped) feel of a japanese home style floor. The reason I don't raise the roof up any higher is the island is supposed to feel like everything was crameed into there. So the low roof gives that feeling of tight spaceing. Light room with torch indented lights in the ceiling for 24 hour lighting, or glowstones in the ceiling.
Accepted submissions will be give proper credit.
I will be continuing as best I can, with your help it could be finished by the end of this month... otherwise I might not get it done before the end of the year. It's hard coming up with good stand ins for the buildings that have no pictures to go off of.
