This is a 1:1 reconstruction of the burgus at Ahegg in modern day Germany.

The tower like building measured 10,8 m x 11 m and was surrounded by a ditch. It was in use over the course of the fourth century and was probably manned by a dozen men.

As a source I basically just used the german wikipedia article for the burgus which you can find here.

There's a certain beautiful simplicity to this build. It may lack some of the more impressive embellishments of other builds, but that just adds to its verisimilitude. Its compact nature also makes it a useful drop-in for larger builds, perhaps as a wilderness outpost or a guard-tower alongside a road or outside a town.

Thank you for those words. As you might have noticed I very much favour a simplistic approach for most of my builds, partly because of what you said, I think it adds to the authenticity oftentimes.

The real building actually stood on a hill chain overlooking the forests of the roman border region so maybe it's a bit similar to how one would imagine a medieval watchtower.
