A cheap and cheerful monster farm!
It utilises water flows to flush monsters off triangular spawning pads, thus it is immune to the troubles that can be caused by mob idling, and doesn't require many pistons, just 4 per floor. With just 6 floors, you can farm enough gunpowder for a stack of TNT in just 10 minutes!
