Welcome to Chess in Vanilla Minecraft - a recreation of one of the oldest Boardgames existing.

Chess in Vanilla Minecraft, accomplished with the use of more than 34.800 Commandblocks.

Play the classic board game now in Vanilla Minecraft, no Mods required.

Chess in Minecraft (v1.0) by Plagiatus

How it works:

At the moment you enter the Arena as a player, you will be given Red and Green Wool.
The wool is everything you need to control your chessmen by using the follwing pattern:

Place the wool on the glass at the edge of each field on the board.

Red Wool: Field the chessman is currently on.
Green Wool: Field the chessman is supposed to go onto.

To start a new game you need to activate the all-powering gameclock by clicking on the "Start game" Button. This will very certainly cause some lags, witch can cause the game to break a bit. if that happens, just hit the "Debug" Button, while no move have to be processed and most of the problems will be fixed. If that doesn't help, you will have to reload a copy of the world. Sad but not to change.

The Game:

The goal of the game is to defeat your opponents king by moving your chessmen according to their abilities.

Spoiler - Chessmen and their allowed/possible moves (not checked by the game)

The king moves one square in any direction.

The queen
combines the power of the rook and bishop and can move any number of
squares along rank, file, or diagonal, but it may not leap over other

The rook can move any number of squares along any rank or file, but may not leap over other pieces.

The bishop can move any number of squares diagonally, but may not leap over other pieces.

The knight
moves to any of the closest squares that are not on the same rank,
file, or diagonal, thus the move forms an "L"-shape: two squares
vertically and one square horizontally, or two squares horizontally and
one square vertically. The knight is the only piece that can leap over
other pieces.

The pawn may move forward to the unoccupied square immediately in front of it on
the same file, or on its first move it may advance two squares along
the same file provided both squares are unoccupied (black "●"s); or the pawn may capture an opponent's piece on a square
diagonally in front of it on an adjacent file, by moving to that square
(black "x"s).

For more Information klick this link.

Sadly, special moves like the Promotion of the Pawn and the Castling of the King and a Rook cannot be processed due to how the game is operating (well, at least not now, maybe in a future version).

I'm sorry about that.

After you defeated your enemys king, you can reset the chessboard by clicking the "Reset" Button (Note: both active players need to ask for a reset. Thats to prevent one player trolling his opponent if he is a unfortunate position) and you're good to go for the next round.

That's pretty much all there is to it. Everything left for me to say here is thanks for watching and playing my Map, and if you liked it, please hit that dia button and fav it, that is alwys appreciated and if you want to stay tuned for upcoming projects make sure to subscribe to me on PlanetMinecraft and maybe on Youtube.

Does this have the En passent rule? Also does it take  incount illegal moves like the king moving in check or pinned pieces moving and allowing check?

no, it actually doesn't check at all. i couldn't quite think of a way to do so in 1.7

Therefore EnPassant is kind of included since it doesn't check you can perform any move you want.

lol to do 2 move first time do a scoreboard objective ("peices" Maybe? lol)
with the player "Pawn" that starts with a number higher than one (ex. 10) and do things like
wpawn1, wpawn2, bpawn1, bpawn2 (ex.) to make it specific thx. and also do a score of 0 for other teams turn. :P that'll make it more intresting from here on you can add more things in the revamp update i just sugested that would take forever XD

(i prefer you also make it say "White Teams Turn!" in white and "Black Teams Turn" in black) and make it like average chess :P (black and white)

edit: i could always do this version for you :D

if you didn't get it, you need a player for every peice for teams to work :D

(ex. brook8, wrook7, bqueen, wking, lol)
#=from left to right which order they were in originaly

(and lol you might need a "pos" (or somthing like that) objective to mark their positions, (ex. B8, E6) :P just to make the process more operational, those are what these sugestions are :D

first: i made it blue - white because you couldn't distinguish the black pieces on the black background of the board, thats why they're blue.

second: of course it's possible to do that, and it even wouldn't be too hard to do, but the downside is: you need freakking 32 players, that only stand there.. for amusement of 2 others that could play. and since i don't know anyone who would want to be that, i thought i'd be way better, if the chess pieces were made from blocks and not from players. get it?

acualy...you can do fake names for it... but you should still use an entity as a 2nd marker of it's pose... but blocks (or minecarts with blocks)
this command can add fake players:
/scoreboard players set (fakename) (team) 0

add works too though :P

Huehue, totally stole my idea ;D
Well, I am nearly done with my version too which also doesn't allow any kind of cheating and is played on a 8x8 field instead of the huge 64*64 ones or so.

Well, as I nearly done this myself, I must admit, that this took a lot of work and I really respect you for creating this sweet baby.

Good job, keep going like that.

Looks good an other chess system, although my one works without any commandblocks but is way bigger.
So am I correct that there is no movement logic or anticheat? Not that mine has but it is still interesting.
The 3d pieces looks good and don´t mind the lowres, they get the job done.

yes, its just like a normal chessplate, where you have to watch over the rules for yourself.

Yours looks pretty epic, too though.

And i already got the Redstone in Place for a 1.8 Version with a bit changed mechanics, I'm only looking for someone to deign me the pieces since this Version the Pieces can have an Footprint of up to 16x16 Blocks -  and it only uses 500 Commandblocks :-)

Very impressive. By the way, how many command blocks did you use? In the last picture, it looks like there are 100s of them.

Anyway, here's a diamond.
