"City Battlements" - A 2014 Build [Download]

The Build : These fortifications were to protect a CTF map on a multiplayer Minecraft server. The base of the whole construction is 154x154 large, and the corner towers are 46 meters tall (36 meters for the smaller ones). 12 towers and tough walls, these fortifications could keep out any army. This build uses a style close to medieval, using a bit of quartz, a remain of my previous building style I've used in my futuristic tower base.

Date : According to some Skype discussions, it's been built from the 7th October to the 19th October 2014.

History : Back in the late 2014, the server I've used to play on (actually, to live on, I must say ..) began to have troubles and seemed to come to an end. To react to this, some players had decided to create a new server which they would have managed and built by themselves. Hired as a builder and an admin in their project, my assignment was to build a map for play the Capture the Flag game. My initial plans were very complete, the map was to be a steampunk mining city with huge buildings ranging from a skyscraper mine to the thermonuclear fusion reactor. That was a lot of awesome stuff, but as I'm extremely lazy I had decided to begin by the easiest part of the map : the walls which would keep the players within the game area. In only 12 days, the entrance, the wall section, a corner tower and a smaller tower were built. The rest of the job was easy, it was just a bit of MCEdit copy/pasting. After the walls, the map was going very slowly and has never been finished at all. Well the server my map was intended to be a part of has never been finished and launched neither (although it's attempting to relaunch according to the last news). I decided to remove the few buildings inside the walls and to post only the walls, as I didn't have all the buildings I initially wanted.

The next step, the next level : This build is a huge turning point in my builder career. Before this, all my builds were white and green, futuristic-looking. After this, everything I've built was much more detailed, mostly red and grey, and with more complex shapes. At all, even if that was a casual work, it did it's job.

My review : More recent than tower base, this is maybe around 65% of my current building skill. Totally different from the tower, the fortifications are more detailed and use more different colors. When I've built this, I thought that was high quality work .. Well now I must say the shapes of the towers are basic and squarish, the patterns are repetitive and some parts such as the top cannons were quite failed. However, the size of and the low-yet-sufficient quality of the city walls still make them look rather impressive.

i remember the day i requested this, good old times when this was started. even now looking back at it it looks quiet well

A wild Hammer has appeared .. Yeah it's still like mmk, eventhough if you restart your server I don't think we would use it as we can do much better now

would be better for a factions spawn now, for the minigames we will indeed do much better quality builds
