| Project Description


This house takes the typical modern stacked rectangular form and gives it a fresh twist by playing with strong contrasts. The clean white exterior is broken up with bold touches of red, adding a bit of personality and making the structure stand out. Inspired by barn-style cladding, the facade combines that rustic texture with exposed structural elements to give the home a slight industrial look.

Although the massing is fairly solid and bulky, thoughtful design elements help soften its appearance. Off-centered courtyards, skylights, and decorative ponds are introduced to break up the flat surfaces and bring in light, air, and a bit of greenery.

A standout feature of this home is its spiral staircase that leads up to a small gardening store on the second floor—completely separate from the main living areas. It’s a convenient stop for neighbors looking for gardening tools, pots, seeds, and supplies. By adding this local retail element, the house doesn’t just serve as a private space, but also contributes to the surrounding community by supporting shared interests in gardening.
