IJN Mikuma (Full interrior)

IJN Mikuma was the second ship of the Mogami-class heavy cruisers, launched in 1934. She was 201 meters (659 feet) long and had a full-load displacement of about 13,400 tons. Powered by steam turbines, Mikuma could reach speeds up to 35 knots (65 km/h or 40 mph), making her one of the fastest cruisers of her time.


Originally armed with fifteen 155 mm (6.1-inch) guns in five triple turrets (to comply with naval treaty limits), she was later rearmed with ten 203 mm (8-inch) guns. She also carried up to 12 torpedo tubes, and had light armor, focusing on speed and firepower.


Mikuma saw action in early WWII, including the invasion of the Dutch East Indies and the Indian Ocean raids. She was sunk in June 1942 during the Battle of Midway, after being hit by U.S. dive bombers — her torpedoes exploded, causing massive internal damage.
