IJN Musashi (Full interrior)

IJN Musashi was the second ship of the Yamato-class battleships of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Launched in 1940 and commissioned in 1942, she was 263 meters (862 feet) long and had a full-load displacement of around 72,800 tons — making her one of the heaviest and largest battleships in history.


Musashi was armed with nine massive 460 mm (18.1-inch) guns — the largest naval guns ever mounted on a warship — plus a powerful secondary battery and over 100 anti-aircraft guns by late war. Her armor was extremely thick, with up to 410 mm of belt armor and 650 mm of turret face armor.


She served primarily as a flagship and transport due to Japan’s focus on carrier warfare. Musashi met her end during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944, when she was hit by over 20 torpedoes and 15 bombs from U.S. aircraft before finally sinking.
