The Insigne y Real Basílica Catedral de la Asunción de la Bienaventurada Virgen María is a catholic cathedral in the city of León in the Central American republic of Nicaragua.
It was designed by the Guatemalan architect Diego José de Porres Esquivel and was built between 1747 and 1816, just five years before the independence of the Central American provinces in 1821.
It's facade is an interesting combination of the traditional spanish colonial baroque that is common to most colonial structures in Central America and the more modern neoclassical style.
