Following WWII Australia found the need for an aircraft carrier to be a part of the navy, the answer was to buy 2 majestic class carriers off of the British navy. the first to arrive was the completed HMAS Sydney which arrived in 1951 along side with a carrier from the British navy to fill the gap while the second carrier was constructed. 4 years latter the HMAS Melbourne was finished and sent to Australia for testing and to be commissioned. during its 30 years of service the Melbourne was involved in 2 incidents whit minor repairs needed. the first was the HMAS Voyager which was in testing with the Melbourne as a plane guard. the second was the USS Frank E. Evens which suffered the same fate of the voyager with it sinking shortly after the collision. the bow of the Melbourne was repaired both times. in the early 80s the situation was in dire need of repairs and upgrades, there were no more spare parts for the Melbourne it was running it final leg of its life. in 1983 the decision was made to sell the Melbourne to the Chinese navy for scrapping following nearly 30 years of service, it is unknown if the Chinese scrapped it immediately or held onto it before scrapping it.
