The NS 1700 locomotive series were built between 1990 and 1994 by GEC Alsthom, and were put into service on december 1991, 80 locomotives were built in total and numbered 1701 - 1781, Currently there are 14 out of service, mostly because of fires


They were designed to push and pull DDAR trainsets and to replace the mDDM motor carriage for the DDAR, but eventually used for Intercity Belin, DDM-1, DDAR and freight (as NS-Cargo - now DBCargo).


They are also based off the SNCF BB15000 and BB7200, and technically a modified version of the NS 1600, which is visually identical.
