St. Anna. (Saint Anne's Church) is the Catholic Main church and a Pilgrimage Location in Düren, Germany. It is a Pilgrimage Location as it contains a part of the Skull of Saint Anne. This building was the 6th church. Taking a lot of parts from the church that was before, And is built entirely in Gothic and later on Gothic Revival style.
It was build in the year 1563 and Modified in 1878. From which also the Steep Gothic Revival steeple originates from.
This church was once the Tallest Building in Düren aswell as one of the tallest Churches in the entire Rhineland. With a hight of about 104 Meters.
On the 16th November 1944 it was Destroyed. As Anglo American Pilots showed the world an example of the most Barbaric act of Air terror that ever occured by Conventional Bombing. Düren was wiped from the Face of the earth, and nothing Stood anymore but a few walls. The Image was comparable to the Atomic Bombing Catasrophe of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Düren was the Most destroyed city in the entire German Reich with more than 99% destroyed.
Today it stands again. But not remotely as it used to be. Another church was built in the year 1954-56 In modernistic style. It is still a popular Pilgrimage location.
It is located on Annaplatz.
