This building is based on a real life recycling center in a small city. The building is mainly devoted to the recycling centers needs but shares its upper loading docks with a logistics company that also operates in the building.
Recycling material is dropped off in the white dome at the rear of the building. From there it is brought inside by a forklift with a bucket attachment. Buckets of material are dumped into the hopper at the bottom of the sorting line. Employees stand at stations along the sorting line and manually sort through the material seperating cardboard, plastic, steel, aluminum and garbage into containers positioned below the sort line. The remaining material falls off the end of the sorting line into a seperate pile of mix materials.
Over at the baler a seperate pile of cardboard is made when loads from trucks contain only cardboard. One employee operates the baler, removing material that doesn't belong with the current bale, such as removing plastic from a cardboard bale, while the other operates a forklift to load the baler with. When a container is full it is brought over to the baler where it is compacted and tied into a bale of material. The bale is stored on the upper loading dock until there is enough to load a transport trailer. From there the bale is sold to a company that will reuse the material the bale is made up off.
A section of the upper loading dock is used by the logistics company for unloading and loading its own transports and trucks.

A special thanks to Yazur for building the front loader trucks.
