7 days of work finally done! I decided to upgrade the old concrete bridge because it looked pretty lame. I decided to make a suspension bridge because they look cool. My main inspiration was the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge.
Construction timeline:
Day 1: Demolition of the old bridge. I completely removed all evidence of the old bridge.
Day 2: Demolished part of the highway and raised it by 13 metres. I then paved that portion of the highway.
Day 3: Placed the foundation for the towers and built the 2 towers.
Day 4: Construction of the deck begins.
Day 5: Deck construction completed.
Day 6: Added the suspension cables.
Day 7: Added lighting. Bridge construction completed and its now operational.
Comparison:
The new bridge is twice as high as the old one. The concrete bridge had a clearance of 15 metres at max. The new bridge is 24.5-30 metres in clearance. This taller bridge allows for bigger vessels to pass through.
