Built before my server introduced Runecraft and it's teleport pads, the Sky highway still exists as a way to travel between my various projects on the server. I've posted it to give people ideas and to collect opinions on what form the overhaul of this highway will take.
The sky highway is connected via three towers, one 'drop point' (That provides a one way trip into the hermitage) and 1 waystation for travelers inside a mountain. The highway has periodic lighting to prevent falling off the edge, although this will have to be overhauled as well to prevent monster spawning. I don't want anyone getting creepers dropping in on them....
OverHaul:
I'm looking at one of two methods to 'spruce up' the highway and make it more efficient:
1) To remove the cobblestone currently forming the highway and replace it with glass. This is make the highway much more ascetically pleasing, but may add difficulty with players falling off the highway
2) A series of minecarts and boosters would help people transition the highway quicker. I'd have to revamp the waystation to prevent minecart clogging.
Please post in the comments with advice/opinions on which path I should take!
Diary:
12/6/2010:
Highway has been expanded to Outpost Beta to provide a public safe point for people looking to expand into the Tundra. An initial group of screenshots has been taken. The Teleport hubs along the highway are currently broken and need to be rebuilt.
(Later that day)
Screenshots have been uploaded.
12/9/2010:
I've started laying down track to make this a powered-cart railway. I need to do some testing and will post pics when I get results.

A new cartograph has been posted. The highway has (finally) been joined to the Spawn City. I've started laying down the tracks as well.

Additional Notes
*Note: Project was stopped after a server/map wipe. The tracks had been nlaid, but accelerators had not. The Sky Highway proved to be a good way nto get new players to move beyond the spawn area, but tended to be nincorporated into other highwaysProgress | 50% complete |
