The Steintor (Stone Gate) Is the last remaining city gate of anklam, and is the only one that was not destroyed in the 19th century during the slighting of the city walls. It also is one of the few buildings that did not take haevy damage during the bombing of the city in world war 2.
The stone gate is originally built in the 13th century and one of the oldest structures from the city walls. Originally it was lower (the first 3 floors) in the 14th and 15th century multiple floors were added to it, and it received its characteristic brick gothic stair gable.
Until the end of the 19th century the gate tower was used as jail.
Since 1927 its' used as a Museum.
