While I was experimenting with blocks that could emit a redstone current out of a comparator, not affect redstone around it and be pushed by pistons, I found a new piston tape design that is 1 block thinner than the standard previous design. I was able to do this by using cauldrons of water which makes it possible for the memory tape to be only 3 blocks wide, instead of 4. If you like this please diamond/comment/subscribe.
